Good Ole Boy's BBQ — Restaurant in Oak Grove

Update. 2nd visit since OP. Thank you to management, the problems I had with the phones appear to have been fixed. (And the food is still delicious)

Trouble getting through on the phone to order pickup, my coworker didn't, so I went to get that order. Had to wait 10 minutes at the window behind 1 car. Her order ended up missing the drink. On top of that, I tried to tell the girl at the window I couldn't place my order because I couldn't get through on the phone. She smugly said they were really busy and shut the window on me. This isn't the only rude encounter. I didn't complain about the other times because everyone can have a bad day. Trying to get through on a phone is frustrating when it will ring several times then an automated answer says voicemail isn't set up. Also, when I was watching through the window, I saw 2 people behind the counter just standing there. In fairness to the business itself, the parking lot did have more cars than usual because the food is that good. But I only get an hour for lunch, factor in travel time, I like to call ahead so I don't have to wait. Other times, I've been the only car in line but was asked to leave the line my order to...

I never say anything about any restaurant because I don’t want to cause any harm.. but after this THIRD time of the quality of food as it is I do feel the need to make this review. This was the third time that the food has not been good. I ordered the regular large bbq sandwich and got the baked beans for my side. I don’t know what has happened to this place for the last year, but the food is absolute trash now. The sandwich was mostly fat from the meat. The beans tasted like they were just poured from a can (cheap beans at that) no flavor. Even the sauce is not good anymore. I’m very disappointed with this as Good Ole Boys has always been my go to for a good bbq meal. Very disappointing. I will not be eating there again as it’s the third time that this has happened. I miss the old staff employees that used to care what came out of the kitchen. I’m sure my opinion won’t matter to them. But I will NEVER spend my money there again. Meh. Stopped here on the way to the lake. BIG crowd of happy folks! I ordered takeout for the road. We had a Big old Boy tater or such. Turned out to be two medium Taters. This was ok but why??? Even falafel places in Birmingham can source the required football sized spuds. I ordered a large BBQ sandwich. This is. 7.99 item and I don't think it even had 4 ounces of meat. Really just a mildly pork flavored bun. Unacceptable. Absolutely unacceptable. Onion rings were good and made there. Fries were sad. Frozen crinkle cut served warmish. Banana pudding was unacceptable. Not a proper cooked custard or pudding, probably a canned product or Jello Pudding with some nilla wafers and random banana slices. ONE VISIT and it was packed on Friday afternoon. They have multiple locations and the kitchen was American. Maybe they were just busy and I had a poor experience, but I've seen this movie before. They only have to be better then the other local spots, not as good...
