Lil & John's Sweetreat Ice Cream Parlor — Restaurant in Oak Island

The staff served my husband peanut icecream by mistake when he ordered blueberry—this is a major problem because I have a deathly allergy to peanuts, which we had told the staff minutes before their mistake. He took a bite out of it and had to be careful around me and wash up for the next 24 hours. I am pregnant and a mistake such as this could kill someone with an allergy, or myself and my baby in this case. The staff were additionally trying to convince me that I would be safe to eat there with a peanut allergy, despite the icecream with peanuts being made in the same vat as the other flavors. This would not be safe for someone with a severe allergy and the staff seemed totally unaware of this, which is unacceptable for those who work in food service. The staff laughed when my husband told them about the potentially deadly peanut mistake they had made with his order, instead of taking the safety concern seriously. As a cherry on top, the staff insisted they couldnt put some tap water in a cup for an overheated pregnant women in the heat of summer—this for a group of people that made multiple orders. Completely unsafe, unacceptably undertrained and irresponsible staff that should not be permitted to work in food service, where they could kill someone with their negligence and...

What’s a hot fudge sundae without hot fudge? It’s just a dish of ice cream. Some college friends were visiting and we decided we needed some ice cream. It was pretty late but Lil & John’s on the island was still open. The reviews were good so we headed there. Waiting in line in the rain - not a problem. I ordered a hot fudge sundae with butter pecan ice cream. ‘Any toppings?” Pecans. “We don’t t have pecans, we have walnuts.” Ok that’ll be fine. “Do you want the hot fudge cake?” No. Maybe that was my mistake. I ended up with a dish of ice cream (not even sure it was butter pecan). With whipped cream, a cherry and their ‘wet’ walnuts. Walnuts in a sort of caramel sauce - which was good. But no hot fudge. Visited here while on vacation in Oak Island. I loved the Banana Pudding ice cream, so yummy! Tried the Lavender Honey, not a fan, had a weird flowery flavor. Husband had the Peanut Butter Butterfinger ice cream, good flavor but he wished for more candy bar pieces. He also had the Carmel Apple ice cream, was delicious, however it does contain nuts (for anyone who might have allergies!). We returned a second time and I had a banana split with their Banana Pudding ice cream - so yummy! Husband had the Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae with Peanut Butter Butterfinger ice cream, which he enjoyed a bit more then just getting scoops...
