Seaside Mermaid — Restaurant in Oak Island

First time walked in for something simple to grab for a morning bite. Was hoping they had more along the food line but they did have good looking pastry. Upon leaving establishment however, I discovered that the flavor and consistency is nothing I would expect, bakery, especially one as expensive is this. This reminded me of fresh out of the box Bakery products. The really sad thing is it's not even well done for out of the box mix. I was not only highly disappointed but it actually threw both Bakery items in the garbage. One I took a slight taste out of that was supposed to be for my fiance as a surprise and the other was for myself which I ate almost a quarter of it before I couldn't handle it any longer. Atmosphere is glitzy and cute if you like Myrtle Beach touristy sparkly type of stuff which is all fine and good there are many who do like that atmosphere. Didn't matter to me and my rating and comments are not at all based on the atmosphere, strictly for food. On a second note however, the two young ladies that were there helping me last week we're very knowledgeable professional friendly and honest with the honesty part I greatly appreciate it when asked about ingredients in the smoothies due to sensitivity and Allergy to certain chemicals. If you're fine with a knot natural smoothie that I'm sure these taste amazing. Again my rating does not reflect the staff as I was very pleased and even impressed is one of them and respect to the honesty but for the food part of this I would definitely recommend avoiding especially for the price. We have had a place on the island for years and decided to try this place for the first time. The experience started off very nicely, yet the owner seemed a bit overwhelmed with the line. You see, my sister was down with us trying to find some normalcy and peace for a week. Her husband, age56, has stage 4 terminal brain cancer which she is dealing with daily, and suddenly she had to get out of line to take a phone call from Duke. When she returned to us at checkout the ladies true colors came shining through. 😕 She got my sisters order wrong and when my sister went to question it, this lady abruptly told her that was NOT what she ordered and we heard my sister place the order. When I say she was abrupt she was ABRUPT!!! So disappointing for us. She made my sister very sad. She lost what could have become some good and loyal customers. Hope she has a better...

Stopped in this past Sunday before I left Oak Island. I was so overwhelmed with the sheer amount of offerings, it was a pleasant surprise and felt like a one stop shop for roadtrip snacks! I have never been to a place with as many fresh pastry and sweet options as here!

For coffee: I got a turtle Thai with whipped cream, a blended drink that tasted exactly like Thai tea but better. Baked Goods: I got a dark chocolate jumbo peanut butter cup, so rich I had to limit myself to a bite every hour so delicious. A regular glazed donut, perfectly executed classic.
