This was our first visit since the fire. We always make a point to stop here while on vacation. We had a blast! We went for lunch. Our waitress, Kenzee, was THE BEST! We had a group of six and she was on her game. The whole staff was awesome and attentive! We were checked on by our waitress, the hostess, and the bartender. The food was on point! My children loved everything we ordered (calamari, chicken sandwich, chicken tenders, fries, peel and eat shrimp, oysters, wings). There was a small mix up with my drink order. It proved to be a welcome mistake because my wife ended up taking my drink instead, and ordering another one. The bartender even gave us some samples of other beverages to try. Could not have asked for a better experience! Awesome staff! Thank you and see you next year! BTW, they do charge a 4% charge for using a credit card. This was done by several other businesses in the area. Not a deal breaker for us. I have to note, one year in the past, I didn't realize there was an 18% gratuity charge for guests of 6 and up. Didn't pay attention to the receipt. I tipped on the total. When I checked my bank statement, my tip amount was not charged. I called to apologize and question what had happened. The person I spoke with remembered my group and said the waitress made no comment about tipping. She must have removed my tip, realizing my mistake. Very classy move.

We visit OKI often and are always excited to try new breakfast spots—so we were pumped to see Pirates Deck now open in the mornings! This place has such a fun, laid-back vibe and tons of space, which is a big plus during the busy season. It’s nice to have another breakfast option that gives you room to spread out and doesn’t come with a long wait. Inside is clean, bright, and really cute—exactly the kind of spot where you want to start your day. The service was fantastic—everyone was super friendly and our food came out hot and fast. You can tell they’ve got a good team running the show. The menu had a great variety—something for every kind of breakfast person—and the prices were almost too good to be true. Our whole meal was super affordable, with nothing over $10. The special that day was a sausage quiche, and it was delicious—flaky crust, great flavor. The waffle was enormous and still somehow light and fluffy. I also grabbed the 6-piece French toast to-go for just $5, and it was the perfect size to share (or keep all to myself… which I did). If you’re in OKI and looking for a casual, friendly breakfast spot with great food and even better prices, definitely give Pirates Deck a try. Whether you’re fueling up for a beach day or just recovering from the night before, they’ve got you covered.

We recently visited Pirates Deck in Oak Island, North Carolina, hoping for a fun and satisfying family meal, but unfortunately, it didn’t quite hit the mark. I ordered the shrimp platter, which was decent but lacked the fresh, coastal flavor I was expecting. My wife went with the BLT sandwich — simple and serviceable, but again, nothing that stood out. One of our sons had the wings, the other had the chicken tenders, and both said they were “fine,” which kind of sums up the overall vibe of the meal. What really stood out, though — and not in a good way — was the service. It took a long time for anyone to even acknowledge us after we were seated, and we weren’t the only ones who noticed; we actually watched a younger couple get up and leave after waiting too long to be helped. That’s never a good sign. To be fair, the food wasn’t bad — just very average — but when paired with the slow service and underwhelming atmosphere, it’s hard to find a reason to return. Oak Island has plenty of other dining options, and next time, we’ll probably try our luck elsewhere.

My family and I just left the restaurant and we honestly had a horrible experience. We were seated by 8pm and ordered 2 appetizers. We then ordered food by 8:30 and asked about our appetizers which we still hadn’t received. Our waitress told us she “forgot about them” and would check on them for us. We thankfully received our appetizers a few minutes later. Our food however didn’t come out until close to 10pm and when our food was brought out everyone’s food except the 8 year old child’s food was brought out. The child’s food didn’t come out for another 5-10 minutes. Also, when our food came out they had given us wrong orders and when we tried to tell the waitress what we were supposed to have she was argumentative literally saying “that is not what you ordered, you ordered this” straight ARGUING with us about what we ordered. She also forgot to give one of our people their fork and NEVER even brought us out a fork despite having asked her for one multiple times. He ended up having to use one of our forks. The waitress never even apologized for that error. We also had to ask multiple times for some sauces and thankfully they were eventually brought out. My husband ended up having to go to the bar and ask for drinks and a lemon for his fish due to our waitress never bringing them out despite having asked for some. Our waitress also asked us if we needed more drinks only twice the whole 2.5 hours we were there. As our waitress began to realize our frustration she began to get an attitude with us. Annoyed, we ate dinner, which the food was good, nothing special, but it was fine! When we got our bills we had been charged for things that we didn’t order and when we told the waitress about them she, with an attitude, told us she would “talk to her manager” and then fixed them. Never once apologizing for any issues that had occurred during our meal. After getting our receipts back we realized that our check we had originally received and our final bills were different prices. Still annoyed, we had gone up and talked to the staff about this and they had attitudes with us telling us there is a 4% up charge for card use. Totally fine, but that 4% up charge wasn’t listed in our check as our total and was only in “fine print” at the bottom of our check, making the “total” different than what it should’ve been which was frustrating as our totals were being falsely advertised. As we were getting up to leave the manager stared at us from across the patio and then yelled “byeeeee” to us in a mocking/sassy voice, which was totally rude and uncalled for. After that My husband then went up to the manager and apologized if we came off rude, but expressed our reasoning for being frustrated and also said that after talking to her she seemed to be highly intoxicated. During this experience the manager never came to us and tried to talk to us about what was happening or anything, my husband had to go up to her after she rudely mocked us. Nor did our waitress apologize for the issues that occurred. We also had 2 restaurant staff members in our group, so we are all very sympathetic/empathetic to the chaos of serving and very understanding that working in the restaurant business can be very stressful to staff members, but this was completely uncalled for. I hope that in the future the employees and managers will have better training as to how to talk to and treat their customers because what should have been our fun care-free family dinner turned into more of an annoyed frustrated outing that made us wish we had ordered pizza to be delivered to our house. As for us, the horrible service and subpar food will be preventing us from further returning to this...

So much wrong with our dining experience. I’ll start with the wait. We called ahead to ask what the wait was and was told it was 30 minutes. When we arrived , we were told that the kitchen was overwhelmed and they were staggering their tables by the time. When we finally ended up leaving the restaurant after eating our food it was close to 9 o’clock after about a two hour dinner. We sat at the outside bar, and there were specials listed on the board. Our bartender who was very pleasant . We asked about the drink special that was listed. He saud did not know what was in it because the person who made up the drink and listed it on the menu board was not there.

We originally were seated inside in the pool hall area of the restaurant which we promptly said was unacceptable so back outside we went to wait. We were seated outside and Our waitress was exceptionally friendly.

The menus were dirty and grimy, and some printing was not even legible due to the laminate separating.

There were 7 of us - entree one- Crabcake sandwich- Appeared to be undercooked with no crab. The sandwich appeared and tasted to be warm mush, and the french fries were cold

Entrée two- 12 wings- 6 mild snd 6 garlic Parmesan- The mild wings were so spicy that they were in edible according to the person who ordered them. When we asked the waitress, she said, sometimes they make them a little bit more spicy and if we would like, she could bring out some more ranch dressing. The garlic parm were overcooked and too tough to eat.

Entree three- Mahi basket- was pretty good, however, the french fries were cold and although the menu stated it came with hush puppies, there were none. They charged three dollars extra for the mahi to be grilled rather than deep-fried. Even though the waitress Gave the option of grilled or or fried she did not indicate that there was a charge.

Entrée four-Scallops-They were excellent however french fries were cold and they charged three dollars for those to be grilled and the waitress asked us. Do you want them fried or grilled and did not tell us ahead of time that there was a charge for them to be grilled

Entrées four and five flounder basket. I asked if mine could be grilled and she said no. I felt that the flounder was tasteless, cold and overcooked. Again, the fries were cold, The other patron that ordered the flounder said it was bland but what he exoected. Again fries were cold.

At the end of the meal when we asked for our check, I also explained that the french fries were cold. The waitress said I can bring you some fresh french fries. They just are cooking some so she returned with a basket of piping hot fries, which were good.

When our final bill came there was a surcharge because we paid with a credit card. our total bill was an excess of $225 which included two drinks , tax and added 18% gratuity plus all...

We visited while we were on our vacation 03/01/2024, it was our last night on vacation so we wanted to try somewhere new. We went in a few minutes after 5 and were the only ones there when we went in. The waitress had no other tables but took at least 5 minutes to get drinks (only 3 of us at the table and we all got soda). When she came back she proceeded to ask us if we were ready to order, we were not so we asked for a few more minutes. She proceeded to come back to our table 4 times within 5 minutes as if she was trying to rush us. Once we did order she then ignored our table for over 40 minutes, and at one point we sat for over 15 minutes with no drinks. She only had about 4 other tables, all of which only had 3 maybe 4 people. There were things we needed like sauces and straws which we had to wait over 20 minutes to get because she completely ignored our table. The food was dry and we ordered a side of cheese fries but she put in chili cheese fries so I had to tell the girl running the food, which she had it fixed. At 6:49pm the waitress FINALLY printed the check and brought it to the table to which we noticed that she had me charged for chili cheese fries and not cheese fries, she did not come back to our table for 15 minutes to get payment. When she came back I let her know that the wrong one was charged on the ticket to which she said “Oh, same thing” and then walked away and refused to fix it. We didn’t even eat the food, we put it in boxes and then threw it away later. Once she took my card, she took it back to the computer and left it unattended while she came back to another table to take their order and went back to put their order in and after she proceeded to run my card, she had my card for at least 5-6 minutes which is not acceptable at all. We went in a few minutes after 5pm and it was 7:13 by the time we left! The other waitress who had only been there for 3 days was doing great with her tables, she informed them of the specials they had, our waitress not once ever tried to inform us of any specials they had on anything! This was by far the worst service we have ever received!! We were due to come back home the next morning so I was not able to get anything done about it but if we get to come back to OKI we will NOT be revisiting this...
