Because of the 3.8 rating, I didn't go in expecting to be wowed, and I wasn't. However, it is a decent restaurant for being out in the middle of a national park. They have a deli and a separate bakery / coffee area.
I got the Special (Italian Sub), which was good but pretty generic. I also got the grilled cheese, which was served on a hoagie (I cannot recall ever having eaten a grilled cheese on a hoagie before). It was a lot better than a majority of grilled cheese sandwiches I have had, however, and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it tasted. The hoagie was soft and the cheese was fully melted.
It is worth noting people have posted pictures of pizza, but they don't serve it anymore (I asked because that was what I really wanted).
The bakery also had two decent items: the snickerdoodle cookie and blueberry muffin. They offer to warm them up for you, which I definitely recommend and I feel increases the flavor. Both were nothing life-changing and I actually saw the same blueberry muffin at another place. This leads me to believe all of their bakery / coffee goods are just bought from some big company like Sysco, but this is a pretty common practice among restaurants and I enjoyed the taste of both items.
If I go back to Yosemite (which I plan to), I would eat here again. Would recommend if you are hungry from hiking, want something that tastes decent, and are willing to pay for slightly...
Read moreWe recently visited Yosemite National Park for a few days and found ourselves near the Village at lunchtime looking for something to eat. As such, we tried the Degnan's Kitchen. Opening hours are 7am to 6pm.
We stopped by around noon and found the deli area very crowded. We used the self-order machine to order a sandwich, received out ticket, went to cashier to pay and then waited around 20 minutes for our sandwich to be ready.
Sadly, the two lads behind the deli station were overworked. deli tickets were falling out of the fulfilment machine faster than they could make sandwiches. They were working as fast as they could, meanwhile three others stood by the nearby pizza oven working on a single pizza and talking to each other. That was a bit odd to see.
Unfortunately, our sandwich wasn't very good. The ingredients were ok but you could tell the sandwich was put together in a rush. The avocado was missing. We didn't have the heart to take the sandwich back to ask them to mend our order. In the end, it was edible but not worth the price paid or the time we had to spend waiting for it to be made.
In the end, as great as America's national parks are for outdoor activities, eating with in the parks is more or less a necessary evil. You've got to eat and if you don't have prepared or ready to eat foods on hand, you need to be ready for what is available in the park, including places like...
Read moreI've been here a few times on my visits to Yosemite. For a canteen in a super touristy spot, this place could be a lot worse. The food is fine – nothing to write home about, but I've never had anything terrible from here. The prices are alright – they're a little high, but far from the scalping I expect given the location. The service is usually fine, though this varies with each visit. The location and atmosphere are great – it offers a really nice spot out of the elements, and acts as a good place to stop and eat during a day going around the valley.
My one complaint was with the service I got in June 2023. The man in charge of the register was incredibly bad at his job. He was also not a teenage summer worker – he's clearly been here for a while, and I suspect he's the manager. He was rude to everyone in line, snapped at people for putting their items in front of the register, and took forever to ring up even the smallest of orders. I almost never complain about service, but this guy was...
