This place had potential, but wow, it desperately needs a health inspection. The only saving grace here was the service—our server was knowledgeable, personable, and had a bit of spunk. Honestly, she’s the reason we even paid the bill and tipped. But as for the rest, it was rough.
The restaurant itself is filthy. Dirty silverware, dead flies in the window seals, and a dingy carpet that looks like it hasn’t seen a vacuum in years. You can literally see track marks, and there’s this awful musty smell lingering around the place. Not the kind of ambiance you want while eating.
I ordered their “new” tri-tip sandwich special, assuming it’d be fresh since it was new. Big mistake. The meat tasted like it had been frozen for ages, with no flavor left, and it had this weird grayish color. The fries that came with it? They tasted like the oil in the fryer was long overdue for a change.
My partner had a hamburger, and it wasn’t any better—old-tasting meat with a stale texture that makes you question how long it’s been sitting in the fridge.
The Yosemite/train-themed decor could’ve been charming, but it was buried under layers of thick dust. It’s hard to appreciate anything when it looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in forever.
To top it off, we ordered drinks—a beer and a margarita, hoping to unwind after a long road trip through Yosemite. The beer was warm, even though the glass was cold, and the margarita was a disaster: bland, stale-tasting alcohol with an overpowering acidic bite.
If it weren’t for the great service, this would’ve been a total disaster. Unfortunately, it’s just not enough to make up for the fact that this place is in serious need of attention—and a deep clean. Avoid unless...
Read moreAlright, so we didn’t have a good experience here at all. The food was okay, nothing horrible but not the best. Spaghetti was VERY watery. There were flies…. Not just one or two, about 20 of them. To where is got so bad we moved tables but they were still around us. The main issue was our server. She did not check on us ONCE! We ran out of water, couldn’t get her attention. My father got the wrong sauce with his meal, couldn’t get her attention. My dad had to go find a different server to help. After we were done eating, we were sitting there for a good 20 minutes while she kept walking past us and looking at us. Little did we know you could just go up to the cashier and pay the bill. Nobody told us and we are from out of town so we wouldn’t have know. Finally she comes up to us and asks us “do you guys wanna pay?” Really?…. No smile, no talking, no checking on us. Manger wasn’t there so we couldn’t talk to them either. When we talked to her about how we were unsatisfied she just replied “sorry” and then walked away!! Very dissatisfied and will not be returning. One more thing, our server also didn’t know the answers to basic questions about the restaurant. We asked if we were allowed the salad bar as it said so on our menus that we could but I wanted to double check. Once I asked our server said “I don’t...
Read moreWhat to say on the old "Miners Inn?" Well...not much has changed besides the name and the bar. Miners Roadhouse 140 doesn't really roll off the tongue, but I'll give it a pass. As an ex-local (born and raised) who visits once in a blue moon, I always like to re-create my old life and eat at the places that once sparked joy. This place was one of them. And although the food may be very basic, the service is not. Kind, friendly, and with that classic small town Mariposa charm, the people who work here will always make you leave with a smile and a full stomach. The interior has remained relatively unchanged since I was a small child, with the train still surrounding the dining region. The food is what you would expect from a basic diner, but it is neither super delicious, nor super bad. It's just meh. The bar is definitely the most upgraded of the bunch, and the bartenders who work there all have the greatest of personalities that you just DON'T want to miss. Overall, if you are looking for a quick pit stop to grub down on your way to Yosemite, come on over to The Miners Roadhouse 140. Enclosed is a picture of my friend Kait and our swath of food that you could expect here on a relaxed midweek...
