I ordered coffee for me and my fiancee that took so long to get! Our orders were simple and the barista took long getting our orders. We had noticed a pattern. After we had ordered, there was a short line behind us. Right behind us was an African American guy and after were white people. The barista and everyone else in the place served the white people right away before us. I had looked at the guy with an awkward look, and so did he with me. Eventually my fiancee asked the lady about my coffee, at this point 15mins had gone by. The lady then reached right behind the coffee machine to grab my coffee. It was so odd because I saw her put my coffee there 5mins after I placed my order. The coffee tasted horrible. Wasn't what I ordered. And prior to that, a man came by with his kids and the barista immediately made their drinks. I'd say atleast 1min after they got their orders. Not sure if it was a race thing, but it felt racist. I thought I was overthinking it, until I saw the other guys expression and what my fiancée had told me after. Also they messed up her order as well. Shame, it's a cute hole-in-the-wall place. But people need to stop choosing favorites,...
Read more1888 Coffee Station is a locally owned and operated walk-up cafe adjacent to Bacheesos. April 2, 2017 is their grand opening and it also happens to coincide with Oakland Running Festival. This place is strictly a walk-up and order to-go perfect for those short on time. The workers are friendly and quick to get you going with no fuss. Even samples of their brew of day are given without asking. Is that top notch CS or what? The beans are grown from their own plantation in Veracruz Mexico. Artisan pastries are from Firebrand (local bakery). Besides coffee they also have loose Persian and Arabic tea. I fell in love with their beans the moment I took a sip of my mint latte. And here's why? They don't used any artificial flavored syrup. My mint latte came with freshly chopped mint leaves that adds a (HELLO Albie) to my morning. Fantastic place to grab a drink and bite while you're...
Read moreHands down my fav cafe in Oakland! For $8, you get a giant freshly made wrap ( I had to share it with my dog bc I can’t finish it myself) with homemade pickles, sour cream and homemade chimichurri sauce.
The other day I ordered an egg white sandwich with large chucks of avocado (actual huge chunks!!!) and lots of fresh veggies in a soft brioche bun. You can taste the freshness of ingredients (there really is a difference) Nothing is overly seasoned or greasy at all, which makes them great for kids or for folks who want to eat healthy.
They can easily charge $12 or even $14 for dishes like this elsewhere. But they choose to only charge $8. I really appreciate them being so humble with the pricing. For the coffee too, they use Alexander A2 milk but only charge $5 for a latte. You can’t find this price anywhere else with this quality. I’m so glad I live around the area so I...
