Barney's Gourmet Hamburgers — Restaurant in Oakland

Well it was ok, but we won't go back.

The service was ok, a little on the slow side and while polite servers just seemed to have a bit of a meh attitude.

Had high expectations with Gourmet in the title. Very let down.

We walked by the kitchen area on our way to the patio, flame-broiled, lots of cooking going on, looked good, even if the patties looked a little too uniform.

The burgers are first and foremost, preformed, frozen patties like what you can get at Costco. No flavor, and honestly a bit dry. You could taste the freezer on them. Second, dry and over cooked. Even for a well done burger, it doesn't mean dry, should still be a bit juicy. Husband's was over cooked.

Bun was stale, pita bread on the Greek burger was also very store-bought like. Again, much higher expectation with the word gourmet in the name.

Also, 1000 island doesn't go with everything! Just saying. Different types of sauces would be nice. Spicy sauce is basically 1000 island with something spicy in it.

Truffle fries we shared, which was a good portion size for sharing. However, they were lukewarm when they came out. Minimal truffle oil. Couldn't taste it and the parm and parsley wasn't sticking to the fries as you would expect with truffle coated fries.

Wine list- it's California! If you're not going to have a decent selection, please don't have it at all. The Zinfandel tasted like straight up grape juice and was dark, and I mean dark, purple. Grape juice! And it was only...

Update: service is still bad and the food has gone down. Today our regular eats, Barney burger, onion rings and Greek salad were all disappointing. Waitress took a long time to even acknowledge that we were here. Some guy took no time to bring us our bill without asking if we wanted something else. So coffee and dessert will be somewhere else. Eating will be somewhere else next time too.

Great food, really bad service. Offerings includes a good mix of salads and some decent vegan eats. Convenient. Now that they are takeout only, the service is worse. Low ESL skills to the point of not being understandable and messing up orders. Poorly signed entrance for pickups vs ordering. No menus to view while waiting your turn. I asked for one and it was refused by a young guy who could not really make himself understood. They all give off the impression that it is just a job and they do not care. I had an appt down the street at Kaiser & we're from the other side of the bay so we were looking 4 sumwhere 2 have dinner & kill time(let traffic die down) so we were sitting in waiting room trying 2 figure out where 2 go, when I mentioned Barneys, a woman in the waiting room commented, they got good burgers, so we decided 2 give it a try. Thankfully we walked cuz there wouldnt have been ANY PARKING. I dont eat burgers out enuff 2 say they have the best burgers but in my opinion 4 the $ they r ok, HUGE IN MY OPINION (I could only eat half) but honestly I was let down- I got the spicy chipotle so I was expecting sum kinda heat but noooo.
