So you are in Oakland on a food tour, and while you wait to score your table at the best Soba noodle experiment, Soba Ichi, you want beer. Really good beer.
Walk a block, and you get to Ghost Town Brewing. 20+ kinds of beer on tap. All brewed with love in their giant steel containers.
Tip: Get a sampler, or like us, get 2 samplers. This allows your group to sample light to dark, pilsner to the haziest of IPA's and decide what everyone wants to get drunk on.
We enjoyed the beer. However, this is no fieldworks. They are good, but with experience, they will get better. Worthy of your liver though.
While you are sampling your brews slowly, they have some games that will make you recall your youthful days, when you could drink for days and wake up to more drinking. Sorry, Uno, Life, Monopoly, and some new kickstarter games: Joking Hazard that has the description 'a game in which you compete with your friends and enemies to finish an awful three-panel comic, from a deck of cards with millions of possible combinations.' Think Cards Against Humanity turns very very naughty.
If you are hungry, there's a Taco truck outside, and they encourage you to bring your food inside to enjoy with your beer. Also, this is an extremely dog-friendly place, so expect to see some beautiful canines.
Oh and spooky fact: This warehouse brewery used to be a...
Read moreI've been coming here a few times a month for the last three years, usually after work to have a beer and pick up a four-pack. The beers are delicious, the music is right up my alley, there's often well-behaved dogs chilling out with other patrons, and an overall chill vibe that helps me unwind after a long day. It doesn't have the outdoor area that the other location has, but at 9pm on a Wednesday night that's fine by me.
On a personal note, a few months ago one of the bartenders made a point to say hi and and has been friendly and chatty ever since. I'm not an outgoing person; I tend to sit alone and am quite happy to continue doing so! But that little acknowledgment, the sense of recognition, knowing - though this isn't Cheers and nobody knows my name - I'm a regular somewhere, that has made my little introverted heart quite happy.
So thank you friendly bartender with braids (sorry, I don't know your name), you are appreciated. And thank you everyone at Ghost Town for making...
Read moreThis brewery is pretty rad. First of all, we tried 10/18 beers and we were stoked on all but a couple of them...that's a pretty darn good streak (The couple were actually the IPA's). We ended up taking a growler of the Pilsner home and I'm drinking it right now.
Second off, they have bicycle parking inside the brewery. And I'm not talking some flimsy parking, I'm talking like more room than the CalTrain and BART you'll ride to get here and the 5 blocks surrounding the brewery itself.
Third off, doggos are chill here.
Fourth off, there are some tasty food trucks just hanging outside to help you get through all 18 brews they have on tap. Do it. Eat food and drink all 18.
What I'm saying is you should grab your dog and put your bike on some public transportations, ride your bike the rest of the way--dog in hand, lock that bish (the bike) up inside the brewery, tell your doggo to grab a table and save you a seat, have your dog watch your beers and...
