Man I FKNG love this place. Its super cheap, the burger is excellent for the price. I think its better than true burger, and maybe 75-80% of a kon-tiki burger (RIP) which i considered the best burgers in oakland. That was a $20 burger, and i doubt this place is using cream co meat like kon tiki and park burger(also very decent but has only recently started venturing into smash pattys and doesn't use american cheese which is essential to have that perfect ultra soft melted cheese that blends with the fat and juices.)
Of course its a smash burger, with american cheese and pickles. No bells no whistles. Just let's the patty do the talking.
I havent even started talking about the real star of the show, their shakes. These might be, in no exaggeration, the best shakes I've had in the east bay. The fruity pebbles shake is otherworldly if you can start slurping it down while the pebbles are still crunchy. Just a stellar texture combination. And most of them are like that. The oreo is amazing when the oreos start to soften in the shake and dissolve on your tongue. I was a little disappointed with the cinnamon toast crunch shake, when I tried it I didn't get the kinda crunch I was expecting like the others. The texture just wast there.
The fries are decent, not as crunchy as id like but it is what it is. You get em hot and they're still good. The sauce they have is probably an s tier sauce for fast food joints, its good enough to elevate the fries into an all-star addition to the combo.
Oh and the service is excellent. By the time you've read this diatribe your burger has been sitting on the counter getting cold and your shake has melted.
They turn em out FAST. They got that excellent bakesale Betty model that I love. You get one thing. Hyphy burgers or the hyphy with banana peppers and jalapeños. Thats it. No fried fish pattys, no breakfast sandwich after 11, no you come for a burger or you go somewhere else. They got 1 or 2 people manning the shake machine and theyre flying them out the door. You're in n out but with a better burger than in n out, better shakes too.
Not that you necessarily wanna bounce. I could go on about the atmosphere, its west grand, its hyphy, it can get popping when its busy. Definitily the best vibe of any burger or fast food joint ive been too.. They play actual good beats not your generic mac dre/keak/jacka/e40/too $hort etc bay hits but you also might hear some messy marv, philthy rich, turf talk, older stuff like rbl posse or imp, baby ray. They got good beats, and if you go with a bunch of friends and chill and eat there its a good time too.
I really hope this place expands, its got a great business model and great food. But for now im just glad the place doesn't have lines down the street like in n out. I like being able to go and grab a good cheap burger and...
Read moreOne of the best burgers I've had in California! Worth the hype for sure. There was a huge crowd and a bit of a wait, but with a delicious payoff - the burger is absolutely delicious, with nice crispy edges like a good smashburger should have, but a juicy, flavorful patty throughout. I consider myself a bit of a burger snob, so believe me when I say, this is a classic, perfect American smashed burger. The bun, the cheese, and the meat all work perfectly. I didn't get a shake, but the fries were solid - a little salty for my preference, but I like them on the less salted side and everyone else in my party loved them. As the business grows, it would be awesome to see different custom styles of fries - garlic, cheese, or animal style, etc - but the regular ones were a great complement to the burger.
The space is bright and the decor is really artistic and engaging to look at. One note: If you're going in March 2025, just remember the business is NEW and working out kinks! They were clearly still getting their bearings as a new restaurant when I visited (and very adeptly dealing with huge crowd and line out the door, so kudos to staff on their efforts!) If you visit, be prepared for a long wait and potential snags (for instance, while I was there something in their ability to make shakes went down, but they quickly responded and recovered). This is to be expected when opening a new business that's facing huge crowds, and a little patience and understanding from customers can go a long way in setting them up for success long term. Super excited for Hyphy Burger to stick around and...
Read moreStopped by after seeing this spot on FB and the joint was packed so we opted to grab and go and sit out by the water in Emeryville to eat. First, I'm gluten free not by choice so I had to take my enzymes to even eat the burger and it was worth it.
We got 1 hyphy, 1 burn out burger and the fries. The person taking our order was friendly and helpful. We skipped the skakes cuz we are old and ain't got no business drinking those.
First, the burgers. I was instantly transported to my childhood with White Castle in the best ways...except the quality was far superior and the potato bun makes it almost bougie. The flavors were memorable including the sauce. The burn out burger has enough heat to know it is different but not so much that it takes away from the taste.
The fries.. move over McDs...we never have to eat your FrankenFries again. These fries are thin, crispy outside and soft/moist inside, and cooked to perfection.
Now, for those who say eweww, to the neighborhood...it is a neighborhood. The young folks hanging there are courteous and are there for the same reason you are. Get your food and go home or to a nearby spot if you want your food to be hot. They also say they have door dash but I haven't confirmed that.
Finally, the service was pleasant and pretty quick (we waited about 10 - 15 minutes) given the...
