Highwire Coffee Roasters — Restaurant in Oakland

We kinda have too many coffee shops in this neighborhood, but each one of them serves a different kind of customer. This one is for the aging hipster who used to live in the city until they had kids. Honestly, the service can be frustratingly slow. I worked coffee when I was younger and it sometimes drives me bonkers seeing people work so slowly in a coffee shop. People are busy in the morning, and I think customers appreciate a sense of urgency from the baristas that doesn't seem to be the vibe here. That said, the staff are very friendly and nice and they have a boho vibe that Montclair is mostly lacking...All that said, what really differentiates one coffee shop from another (and what really matters) is the coffee itself. Highwire makes delicious coffee. I love it. There's a Peets, a Starbucks, a donut shop, and a fancy tea/coffee place all within a block from this place. They're all way faster. But Highwire makes better coffee than they do. It's strong but not bitter. I...

The service and by extension quality of coffee has really gone down over the years. This is specific to the Montclair location. Not to mention the servers have made several of our Jewish friends not feel welcome. Look I'd say if you like their coffee go to the Rockridge location but as long as the service at this location with long wait times, watered down drinks, and a side of prejudice is there don't go there. Sad after years of going there almost 2 to 3 times a week for many years and noticing the quality and service slip at this...

The is superb the croissant was ok, I was hoping for a really nice flavor of the coffee. I did get a latte apart from the standard coffee shops. You see on every other corner. This coffee, top tier.!!!

However, I was a little disappointed with the pastry as there’s no way too warm the pastries that was a little bit of a disappointment, but sometimes you can get past that. Unfortunately the croissant was overcooked so it didn’t have that soft buttery croissant expectation.

Overall, I would definitely make this my go to...
