Highwire Coffee Roasters — Restaurant in Oakland

Excellent coffee. They did nothing wrong, I’m only writing this review because it might be helpful for customers. But I wish they would ask if you want your drink hot or iced. I ordered their strawberry latte and since the description said it was like quick strawberry milk, I assumed it would be an iced drink, because I always drink strawberry milk cold not hot. But then I got the drink and it was hot. Which was totally my fault because I didn’t specify. But I feel like the description could maybe confuse customers, so maybe to help customers out so they don’t order something they don’t want, it could be easier if the barista ask them if they want iced or hot, because I also didn’t realize the default in summer was hot drinks when not specified. But again, this was totally my fault. Nothing wrong with high wire. I love their coffee. Although I do wish the strawberry latte had a bit more strawberry in it because honestly, I got the latte and it just tasted like a normal latte. But because everything is excellent from high wire it still was amazing and I wasn’t upset about it. Consistently yummy coffee on the upper end of the spectrum of good coffee. Way better than a Peet’s or Starbucks but, if you are a super coffee snob who needs a ristretto shot on a super profiled, exotic bean, you should walk another block North to Ain’t Normal. Highwire is in a cheerful indoor/outdoor good airflow shop. The ham & cheese croissant is delicious but runs out early. The baristas are good at their work, quick, and fun without giving attitude. I have loved this spot daily since 2019- Aug 2023 and hoping it stays as great in the future.

Sitting outside is a bit loud due to proximity to BART & Hwy 24 but, I have had many a good hour long conversation in the sun here anyway. If you need more quiet, walk South on College a few blocks to The Chocolate Dragon. It’s also truly excellent.

I don't know who the big italic is but let it be known that Highwire does NOT do pourovers. They have delicious drip coffee and a killer kids' menu and kombucha made in Sacramento. They do not have pourovers. They have super chill staff who are lovely humans and the selection of beans and teas is amazing. You can smell the roasting from around the block and are hit with an amazing chorus of fresh coffee and delicious baked goods. But you won't be served pourovers.
