This review doesn’t reflect my normal experience at this restaurant, but I felt I needed to rate my experience that I had tonight. All week I have salivated for the branzino fish and veggies dish that I have frequently ordered here. To help out the local economy during this tough time, I thought I’d order out after having tired of cooking at home for the past several weeks. I called ahead and walked the 15-minute walk to the restaurant. When I get there, my order is not ready. No problem, I went down the street to the wine shop to pick up wine to go with my dinner. Fifteen minutes later, my order is still not ready and for the first time I’m told there is NO branzino. I’m livid because my heart was set on a specific dish and there were two opportunities to inform me of this fact. I collect myself and order the salmon on the menu. While the dish is being prepared, I walk for another 15 minutes and the second meal still isn’t ready when I return. I’m told that the salmon was a frozen patty so I’ll have to wait a few more minutes. Great. Frozen fish. I could’ve gone to Safeway for that. And after making the walk back home, I tried to distance myself from my experience. No such luck because the salmon tasted like a big nothing burger. The restaurant was apologetic but it should’ve comped my meal or some portion there of because they terrifically bungled my meal more than once. We deserve better when you try to help an establishment during a huge economic crisis. Be mindful if you patronize this restaurant: “The road to hell is paved with good...
Read moreSince I lived in Albania for my first 18 years I have basically grown up eating delicious food from the perfect combination of cuisines such as Turkish, Italian and Greek! So, i am well familiar with Greek food as we have a lot gyros, greek salad, mousaka, their pies and so much more in Albania too. I loved the Greek food festival this year so I was very excited to try out Ikaros on grand ave with my in laws who were travelling from India :)
The service is lovely, place is neat and food is really good! Price wise is a tad expensive for my taste but their servings are pretty big so come and share.
Between the four of us we shared:
traditional moussaka veg moussaka ikaros gyro with fries spanakopita mezes (spinach pie)
We were more than full when we polished our plates. Spanakopita was really tasty and filling and gyro was ah-ma-zing!!! Both moussakas were good but too heavy for my taste.
We chatted a bit at the end with the owner and she was lovely to talk to. Left with a great experience and a warm feeling in my heart, maybe because it reminded me a bit of my homeland. Can't wait to be...
Read moreGood for one time but not recommended for a second time order. I ordered Chicken Kebob(Souvlakia) and the kebob was actually good but had some uncooked chunks which show chef's ignorance. The major issue was that they to not add any condiment or some taste making salad or sauces in the box, like other Chicken Kebob combos do, that makes it less desirable. Hummus was way below mediocre and did not taste like a chef's proud prep, it was more like made by a daily wage labor in the kitchen who can barely read recipe written in English. Portion was also small for $9.00
Over all food was eatable but I did not see any Chef's Pride or Restaurant's Pride to make it stand out and for that reason I will not be re-ordering from this place since I know a lot more other Chicken Kebab places with Quality Chefs.
Its way too over priced for the satisfaction the food offers and missing the 'Wow Factor' completely. I must say that this place has rock solid potential of becoming something to die for if the management and specially the Chef can get their acts together.
Wish you...
