Philomena — Restaurant in Oakland

Can we give 6 stars ? Great great restaurant. I feel lucky to live a few blocks away. Pizzas are delicious, the salads are made with fresh ingredients! I love the sparkling rose :-) I come very often alone or with friends. The crowd is very diverse and the waiters are very friendly and attentive.

My recommendation : cheesy bread with the tomato sauce (to share as an appetizer is perfect) waffle fries with the cheese sauce garden pizza any salads (make your own is even better)

It can be challenging to find a spot when it is a game night. My favorite time is for brunch because we can seat outside. And last detail, if you drive, there is a very convenient parking lot that makes it easy to park. 5 stars and beyond :-) Thank you to the all team for bringing that experience to the neighborhood.

Hey neighbors, Today, I decided to go to support local restaurant « Philomena » on 14th avenue. I was a bit unsure about the conditions but I really wanted to show my support and spend some money there. As expected the place was not as crowded as it usually is. :( However, I was stunned by the quality of service and the high hygiene in the restaurant. It comforted me in my decision to eat there. Let me explain:

1- you have a sign that says that the restaurant receives deep cleaning and also that invites you to wait to be seated. ( it usually is not the case)

2- you are being asked to wash your hands in the restrooms and use paper towel to open the restrooms door.

3- waiters are very cautious about the cleaning : they disinfect the main door each time a new client comes in/out.

4- waiters wear gloves to serve you.

5- waiters clean with disinfectant your table and your seat after you leave :)

I wanted to share my experience because they plan to stay open (as of today) and they also keep the to-go option :)

Wish I could give higher rating because my friend actually liked the food, but the experience deserves closer to no star. Brunch service was slow and inconsistent even though the place was not busy when we arrived. There was a long wait for the food and when it arrived, the dishes ordered among people in my party did not arrive together but staggered by 20 mins with the last person to order receiving his food first.

I was the last to receive my food despite being the first person order food while my friends debated over their drink order earlier. There was no explanation or apology or offer to bring out chips or appetizer to tie me over while watching my friends eat. And when my food finally arrived, it was the wrong order, despite me confirming it twice. And I waited another 10-15 mins. The manager finally brought my food but only placed it on the table, again with no word, apology or explanation. Seriously, if you're in the service business, put an effort to make your patrons of all background feel welcome and apologize if you mess up or have kitchen difficulties. Just own up to it. We tend to understand if you are sincere and treat everyone with the same respect. The indifference was not acceptable. My brunch unfortunately was also dry and overcooked. Super sad!!! I absolutely LOVE this place. The atmosphere is warm, friendly and in my hood. It's a great place to watch sports. I don't drink beer but I noticed that folks buy it. There is also live music on Wednesday evening that delivers really good vibes. I've been coming here for a few years. I recently had the Thai wings and I believe they have a new cook. The wings looked and tasted like unseasoned plain baked wings. There was no sauce on them at all. Twelve party wings for $19, I was not happy when I got home. I could've done those in an air fryer for $5. Their Thai wings used to be absolutely AMAZING. I don't know what happened other than a new cook. Also, the brussel sprouts were not their typical that were chewy, crispy and just down right delish. These were not flavorful in the least and not up to the typical. The two items with tax was about $38. Its unfortunate because I LOVE them and I enjoy the neighborhood vibe, watching sports, the music, the cool diverse customers and the location with outdoor seating. But I can't come back for the food due to the stark difference in the food taste. I love...
