I’ve been to Tarts de Feybesse several times and used to really enjoy their pastries—especially the brioche. I even recommended the place to friends and brought them along. But my recent experience left me deeply disappointed.
I had ordered an opera cake online for a friend’s birthday and drove 20 minutes to pick it up. When I opened the box, I was shocked—for all the wrong reasons. The cake didn’t really look like the photo online. The right side of the cake was unevenly cut, and the left side had clearly been pressed, smudging the gold decoration and even leaving a visible crack. Frankly, it didn’t look like something made by a pastry chef who worked at Geranium.
This was not a cake I felt comfortable bringing to a birthday lunch.
I contacted the store immediately and sent the photo. They offered to either replace the cake if I returned it, or issue a refund. Since I was on a tight schedule, I opted for the refund—there simply wasn’t enough time to make another round trip.
As for the taste? Honestly, just okay.
One more thing: when I was at the store, the staff member opened the box and asked if I wanted to check the cake. I was distracted choosing financiers and responded, “It’s okay, I trust you.” I still don’t know whether he genuinely checked the cake and still handed it to me anyway, or didn’t bother to look.
Either way, this experience was a real letdown. I expected better from a place I once enjoyed and...
Read moreSo yummy! Love Tarts de Feybesse. We just tried their Pain Suisse at the soft launch of their first brick & mortar location and discovered a new favorite! Looking forward to trying the rest of the patisserie we couldn’t resist ordering this morning with friends this afternoon!
Congrats to Monique & Paul on the launch of their first brick & mortar location and the growth of TDF! We have been delighting in their lovely, beyond delicious creations over the years, and have so enjoyed sharing them with our loved ones. Whether as a weekday treat or for a special occasion, highly recommend Tarts de Feybesse and will be back often.
We particularly love their large format St. Honoré Tart (vanilla custard tart topped with white chocolate chantilly cream & cream filled choux puffs dipped in caramel), their Almond Gateau Basque (especially when it is cherry season!), their Pistachio Tart, their Salted Carmel Chouquette Tart, their Strawberry Chantilly Tart, their Red Chocolate Fleur Tart with chocolate and salted caramel, and their Pistachio Éclairs. All of our friends with young children also are obsessed with their Riz au Lait.
Wishing you a wonderful day exploring their...
Read moreLet me start with the positive: the pastries look fantastic, and the people working there seem lovely.
I had the palmier and, to be honest, it was rather soft, and not in a good way. I've lived in Europe for many years and visited France often. I'm a big fan of viennoiseries (croissants, chaussons, palmiers, etc). A palmier is supposed to be crunchy and caramelized. This one was neither. I've only had one good palmier in the Bay Area, and that was at Arsicault in SF (albeit more expensive).
The second thing is about pricing consistency, and it's not necessarily this bakery's fault, it's more of a general trend in the Bay Area. An eclair in Paris is considered a delicatessen, that's why it costs around 6-7 euros, so charging $8.5 here is completely normal. A chausson with apples, on the other hand, costs 2-2.5 euros in Paris, as it's considered a common viennoiserie, just like croissants. Charging $6.5 for it is way too much.
I hope this review is viewed as constructive feedback/criticism by the owners if they read it, as that is...
