I picked this place to have dinner with some friends; it was quite close to where we were having an event that evening, and my alternate option was a place called "Carnivores" which I disqualified exclusively because I didn't want to hear the vegetarian in the group whine about it.
Based on the recommendations of other reviews, I made a reservation for the 4 of us on a Friday evening. I'm really glad I did, too, because it got quite crowded!
The atmosphere was cozy. The tables in my area are close enough that navigating to the bathroom was like navigating a waist-high hedge maze, but not so close that seating was uncomfortable. There's also a bar area with several TVs.
The food was good. I honestly don't remember what I ordered, but I'm pretty sure I ate it all. The menu is larger than I expected for a place so small, and it seems like a good mix of traditionally Euro-American fare that is common in this region: burgers, fish, pasta, salads, etc. My friend took his leftover pasta home to his wife, and she told me she enjoyed it, too.
Staff was friendly, drinks were prompt, our orders were correct, and other customers were loud (as per any neighborhood bar and grill on a Friday evening) but certainly not impolite.
Everyone in the group asked me if I'd been there before, because it definitely feels like a little cozy gem of a restaurant known mostly by locals. I can thank online reviews for...
Read moreI don't usually have reviews like this but this was my least favorite dining experience in the last 10 years. Every dish was bland. Absolutely no salt or seasoning on anything. The flatbread pizza was soggy with large pieces of tomato with seeds left in them, that slid off the flatbread. You never use the seeded part of the tomato when making pizza because of the juice it creates. The food is very overpriced for what you get. We waited 10 minutes before our server came to our table. Then it was another 10 minutes just to get water. There was also straw paper in my drink. All in all it took 1.5 hours to get all of our food. The place is very old, dark and very loud so it was hard to hear others in our party. Lastly, the small parking lot was full so we had to park on the street next to some bushes where passengers had to get out on a hill in the bushes. I would recommend that you save your time and money and dine...
Read moreI went to The Mighty Oak Barrell for a special occasion. We , a couple 60 years old were seated and offered a drink and meal menu. We inquired about a bottle of champagne and chose a $70 bottle. We were not through our first glass when the waitress insisted we order our food stating she could not allow us to "linger' with alcohol! We had a dinner reservation! We had to choose our selections quickly as she did not allow us any more time to decide. I would think that she should have allowed us to enjoy our experience, and there was no one waiting for a table , so not busy. We were rushed through dinner and out the door by 8 from a 6:30 seating. I was very disappointed that we did not get the celebration we had hoped for. I thought this was to be a great place! The food was good but the service terrible. Very sad that I will not be able to recommend this quaint...
