Cracker Barrel Old Country Store — Restaurant in Ocala

My family ate here for lunch after we were stuck in traffic for 3+ hours. So a much needed break. We usually love crackel barrel it's one of our favorite go to stops when traveling. This time was a little different. When we ordered our kids meals I asked the waitress if the meals included their drinks she said yes so as we ordered our kids meals we ordered their drinks with their meal. Each child had a chocolate milk. 2 of our kids ordered grilled cheese with Mac n cheese, then 1 of our kids ordered the mini pancakes since breakfast is served all day. Her drink was NOT included but we didn't know until we got the bill!! Plus no refills for chocolate milk. Then every drink is $3.50+ which most include refills. I ordered a pink lemonade and when the waitress gave me a refill she gave me regular lemonade. Which wasn't the best. I took it to go because I paid almost $4 for my drink. It's cheaper if I bought a 64oz bottle of lemonade at the store than even thinking of ordering a drink here. Plus no refills on chocolate milk is just crazy. Our oldest son ordered the meatloaf with steak fries. (Amazing steak fries probably the best thing we ate today.) My husband and I shared the chicken fried steak with 3 sides, steak fries, mashed potatoes and white gravy, and steamed broccoli. The chicken fried steak, steak fries and broccoli were amazing. Perfectly cooked.the gravy and mashed potatoes was not the best and seemed old. The bread service was OK the biscuits were fresh but the corn muffins were horrible. I think the biggest turn off for me was the price of drinks and then being charged for a drink for our daughter when we thought hers was included with her meal. Plus no free refills. For the cost of everything drinks shouod be included. This is how restaurants gouges...

I was going to just accept the fact that I had a bad experience this last time I went to CB but they keep sending emails asking for a review… and you know be careful what you ask for.

I tried the French toast sampler or whatever it is, and probably should have read it a little better. The sampler comes with two slices of French toast halved and sprinkled with powdered sugar, two eggs made how you want, one piece of bacon, one sausage patty, one piece of ham, and one breakfast side.

The first bit of French toast was shockingly bad…Sourdough bread does not make for good French toast and the butter has a weird aftertaste. Yes, this is partially my fault as I didn’t read it thoroughly. However, that is the only thing I will take blame for.

I order my eggs over medium, I do this because I like my eggs runny but not excessively so… call me picky or whatever but if I’m paying for the food at least cook it right. Unfortunately, the eggs were over easy meaning super runny yolks and slightly runny whites, extremely disappointing.

I would love to say that’s the end of the complaint, but it’s not. The slice of ham, which was so small you couldn’t see it under the bacon and sausage, had the same texture as jerky. The flavor didn’t do anything to help the situation either. The only parts of my breakfast that didn’t disappoint were the hash brown casserole and the sausage and bacon.

I would have complained or at least told the waitress about the food, but she didn’t come back except to drop the receipt. Did I eat the food? Yes, because I paid for it and I was raised to eat what’s on my plate. Will CB get another chance? Not in...

We were at this same location a month ago, and it was great! The waitress was pleasant and efficient, the order was accurate, the food was delivered fast and hot. My husband loves orange cream soda and orders it every time we go to Cracker Barrel because no other restaurant carries it. THIS VISIT: the waitress argued with us, "We haven't had that since before covid there's no way you ordered that last month!" She stood there 10 minutes and went on about it. When she ended her tirade, we ordered our meal. After about 20 minutes she came over and said she was "let go" and said someone else was taking us over. She yelled across the room at another waitress and told her to wave. Then called her over and made a big show of introducing her, "She's no Michelle, but she'll do!" 40 minutes later we still had not received our meals and had no contact from Tracy, the replacement waitress. A man walked by our table to the one behind us and took their order. When he was finished with them I stopped him as he passed our table; I asked if he was the manager [he was wearing a headset and no apron] he said that he was. I told him we had been there over an hour and still had not received our meals. He said he'd go check. Five minutes later our food was brought out by yet another person. It was cooler than room temp, the "extra" mushroom and onion gravy that was supposed to smother my chopped steak was a half inch thick slice of RAW onion and a tablespoon of gravy.
