Went and got pizza with my wife. We werent aware that Grotto's closes at 9 on Sunday. Guy outside told us go in and see if its not too late to put an order in. We get inside and three young girls standing around counter all had to tell us we are lucky we got in when we did because they are closing soon. We order two large pizzas and give our name. During that time 3 other people all came in after us to place orders. Not once did the staff tell them they are lucky they got their order in. Ok fine. I let that go. 20 minutes pass and i see the one girl bring 3 boxes of pizza up and place it on a rack by the register . During this time you had 3 of the girls all standing there either talking to each other or telling each other what to do. Another 10 minutes go by and i tell my wife maybe she should approach the register and ask if our pizza is ready. Girl behind plexiglass ask what name is it under. My wife tells her and she looks at rack and sure enough it was the pizza that was sitting out there for at least 10 minutes. No sorry. Nothing. Then the old guy who walked us in has to point with both arms to tell us you can only exit the side doors. Doesnt even talk. So i told him how unacceptable it was to wait for a pizza when it was already sitting out for 10 minutes and had we not asked if it was ready how much longer would it had taken for the staff to tell us our food was ready ? His response. "Thats our policy here, you have to ask if your food is ready." I told him i never heard of such a thing. No sorry, no thank you for your business. You would think during a pandemic and next to no business in June compared to a normal summer, you would have a business be happy that you are patronizing them. Instead you have 3 college age girls who are too busy telling each other what to do and copping and attitude like they are doing you a favor by taking your order and what i can only assume a manager who could care less they let your pizza sit out getting cold until you ask for it. 40.00 dollars later for 2 large pizzas we drove back to our condo 3 minutes away and ate our cold pizza which for the trouble we could had got boxed Digiorno from Walmart for the quality we got. Won't be going back to this establishment again. There are too many other pizzas places in OCMD to choose from than to patronize a place that has zero...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars, I would. I don’t post food reviews really ever, but I thought this place deserved one due to how high most of the other ratings were. We were so excited to try this pizza because everyone raves about it. Not only did the pizza take two hours to get delivered (it was a Monday night), the food was inedible. The pizza (we ordered a large plain) had zero taste. There wasn’t any seasoning, there was little sauce on it, and it was stone cold. We also got an order of fries (which came in a GIGANTIC bucket) and they were soggy and completely cold and just tasteless. I understand that delivery can cause some issues and the food might not be super hot when it arrives, but it felt like the food had been sitting out for a while before it was delivered. Once it was picked up from the store, it only took about 5-10 minutes to get to our house. We ordered mozzarella sticks, and these resembled the ones from an elementary school; cold, hard cheese center, with a fake, manufactured taste. We also ordered a personal “famous white pizza” and the three of us each took a bite and spit it out (and we are really easy going eaters; with not many things we dislike). It didn’t taste like any white pizza I’ve ever had. It was cold for one, but had a strange smokey fish taste to it, like it’d been sprinkled with old bay or something. The garlic flavor was punchy, and the cheese had a strange plasticy taste.
Overall, would not try this place again. Save your money and order...
Read moreWe dined at Grotto Pizza this weekend (Cruisin' OCMD) for the first time and won't return unfortunately for several reasons. The prices for value being the biggest issue.
The restaurant itself if bright, open and clean, as were the restrooms. Seems like it could work well for large groups.
The service and price of food were issues. Although our server, Timur, was very nice, he was fairly invisible during the entire meal. I chalked this up to him seeming to be a new server and not because he was deliberately ignoring us. He offered us two sodas to go, which was appreciated since we never received drink refills. Again, he was very polite and nice, just slightly elusive.
Our meal was $69 ($84 with tip) for two large pizzas, one small side salad and one soda. Even for a tourist beach town that is outrageous. The pizzas were okay but the pepperoni with ham and feta was certainly not worth $33 alone. The Bianco (white pizza) was alright, but again not worth $23. The pizza was similar to Little Ceasar's, and the costs should have been maybe $18 and $23 for the two. The side salad was nothing special but it was okay, no issues here.
We look forward to continuing to try more pizza places in Ocean City. Grotto Pizza is off our list now, but we are glad to have tried it at least once.
If you're looking for a clean, open dining experience with a lot of options Grotto Pizza is a great choice, but be prepared to pay a higher price...
