Two stars instead of the one I want to give due to our waitress being great and the food being okay, if not too expensive for what it is. Problem is with the restaurant staff and management itself.
Had to purchase a gift card for someone so I figured we would eat dinner here while we were there.
When we got there to leave our name with the hostess, there was a belligerent drunk woman arguing with the hostess demanding a better table. This was causing a line out the door and none of the staff were willing to properly address the woman or walk her somewhere other than the entrance to have her “issue” addressed.
We get told it’s a 40 minute wait so we walked around the area and waited for our text message. After 40 minutes we get seated at our table, and who is seated at the same connected table as us, but the drunk lady demanding special treatment from earlier. We were seated in the kid’s play area which was fine as I was there with my child, even though we did not ask to sit in the playground. The lady started running and dancing around the children’s play area and using obscene language and acting inappropriately.
After the 4th expletive was yelled over my child’s head by the drunk woman, I decided I was either going to leave or ask to be moved. Went to the hostess (manager was “unavailable”) and advised her of the woman who was in the children’s play area, and was advised that it would be either taken care of by moving us, or moving the women. I accepted that as answer enough and went back to my table and ordered. Food came and went, however my seat was never changed nor was the woman moved. Only reason I stayed rather than walked out was because I assumed the issue was going to be handled as promised, when it wasn’t, and only got worse throughout the night.
After dinner I had to begrudgingly get the gift card I was there to get, and was told a manager had to get a gift card for me, who was then readily available when it came to taking money. Told the manager what happened and he half apologized and said he knew of the woman I was talking about and identified her by the table she was at, so the issue was clearly known by him. I advised the manager that the only reason I stayed rather than paying and walking out, was because I was under the impression the issue was going to be handled, as that’s what I was told by staff, but it never was.
He Asked me if there was anything he could do to keep my business and then happily ran my credit card again for the full cost of the gift card.
I’ve never asked for anything free in my life and would have turned down the offer if presented to me, but the audacity to half apologize for not handling a rude and unruly customer that ruined my meal, while swiping my card without hesitation showed zero regard for the customers over the...
Read moreWe had a very interesting experience here last week.
Firstly, the food was absolutely delicious. We had a party of 5 and everyone was thrilled with both the appetizers and main courses. The menu had something for every palette and the seafood options were so fitting for an OC restaurant.
Here's where the review goes downhill. We have a newborn and brought our stroller which shouldn't be impossible to accommodate, especially since the outdoor area is so kid friendly. We also came early on a Friday night hoping to avoid the crowds. They seated us upstairs, so we had to take our sleeping baby out and have two people carry the stroller up as there is no elevator.
We get seated and order appetizers and drinks, apps come and we begin eating. A girl comes over asking to take a photo of our table. We oblige, thinking they'd like some photos of guests for their social media or website. She takes 5 minutes to take our picture, asking us to get our NEWBORN to look at the camera. Never going to happen. After taking a photo of our entire group, she asks me to move next to my husband and daughter to get a photo of the three of us. We have to move chairs around, move the stroller and in the process of the shuffle a wine glass gets knocked over and shatters. Obviously not her fault in the slightest. Completely embarrassed, we have someone help clean up the mess, the girl waits around for it to be cleaned up so that she can take more photos. My husband tells her to leave. We see the back of her shirt as she's walking away, and realize she works for Hollywood Pictures and we would have likely been asked to pay for photos that were taken of us. Not the biggest deal, but we were shocked that a restaurant of this caliber would allow for this to happen while guests are eating. The whole event was so off-putting and we did not enjoy the experience. In addition, our waitress came over maybe 2 times throughout the meal, and never offered to replace the full glass of wine that was shattered. We never expected a free drink given that this wasn't directly the restaurant's fault, but we had to ask for another glass once she finally came over to ask how our main courses tasted. There is no need for an entire photoshoot at a restaurant like this, much less one of a family with a newborn.
The food was wonderful but the service needs some work, and I would recommend they stop allowing Hollywood Photos in the formal indoor...
Read moreFollow up: We returned to Tailchasers last night. The service problems we encountered 3 years ago were even worse. Just two of us went. We were told it would be a 25 minute wait. We waited 22 minutes for a table. So far so good. A waitress took our order very quickly. Still good. We ordered two soups, an entree salad, and a sandwich.
After a long wait, the sandwich and salad came out, no soups. We told the server we never got our soups. The waitress came quickly and said they were out of my soup, but more would be ready in a few minutes. I asked her to just bring me the same soup as my wife. My wife asked her to sure the soups were hot. The French fries with my sandwich were cold.
She brought our soup quickly. They found an order of my soup, which she brought. My wife’s soup was lukewarm - not satisfactory. My soup was literally ice cold - just out of the refrigerator. I sent it back and told her to forget the soup.
So, my wife’s salad was excellent. My Nacho Mama grilled cheese sandwich was excellent. The new order of fries was excellent. The lukewarm crab bisque was just fair. The ice cold tomato soup was awful.
Basically, once again, the food was good; but the service was awful. The waitress did all she could, but the kitchen really messed up.
By the way, the table of 4 next to us also did not receive their soups or appetizers. It seems to be an overall kitchen problem.
Original review: Overall, the food was very good to excellent. The only failure was the mussells from the raw bar. First time I've ever been served cold mussells. We didn't care for them. But the fried calamari was excellent. As for entrees, all 9 of us we're pleased. Tacos were excellent. Crab cakes, very good. Shrimp/rice bowl, excellent.
The problems that brought this review down to 3 stars had to do with service, and the problems may all have to do with this being a fairly new restaurant. There was menu of draft beers, but no prices. The waiter had to go ask how much the beers were. The waiter was very friendly and attentive, but we had to keep asking him to remove empty plates. The kitchen computer apparently can't handle more than 8 orders, with the 9th order going in separately. That one order came out 10 minutes before the others. On the plus side, the manager did offer a free dessert as compensation.
We will go back...
