Came down to OC for a competition with my little ones and went to the tap house next to our hotel the fenwick inn. The atmosphere was very nice, everyone was very kind and cheerful. I ordered the boom boom shrimp tacos , crabby pretzel , the cream of crab soup for my daughter, and the kids cheeseburger for my son. First the kids burger was delicious (according to my 6 year old son) but according to me the fries that it came with were some of the best fries I’ve ever had. I’m not sure how they cut them but they were so perfect and well seasoned. The crabby pretzel was ok but I couldn’t finish it, it was just to salty. If they ease up on the salt and add just a bit more crab and old bay it would be perfection. My daughter said the cream of crab soup tasted really good but that was right before finding a hair in her soup, the waitress acted quickly and kindly and offered to replace the soup however my daughter was grossed out and just opted for a kids burger like my son. Lastly the boom boom tacos were yummy but I was disappointed that they were literally pieces of like the fried popcorn shrimps and not like battered pieces of fried shrimp. I expected a better quality especially for the price. Nonetheless the combination of great service and good food despite the mishaps is the reason I rated it the way I did. I know we will end up coming back down for another comp and I will be back to enjoy the tap...
Read moreThe positives of this place is an excellent view, reasonable time getting our food after order, and excellent service of which our waiter was polite and attentive. These reasons are why I give the three stars overall.
Now the not positive at all. I would not recommend this place for dinning quality. The food is overpriced for the quality. I ordered and received a $25 Cheese Steak which was at best mediocre. I also ordered an appetizer, a Tap House pretzel that was $10 plus. It was the equivalent of one pretzel out of a frozen Sams Club bag of salt pretzels which was then microwaved and served with a pasty sauce, of which had very little taste.
To add negative to an already unpleasent meal was the men’s urinal and bathroom which was filthy dirty. The urinal was literally black and the bathroom looked disregard period. A big plus for a restaurant starts with clean bathroom...
Read moreThe wings appear to be their signature menu item, with 13 or 14 different sauce options, yet they take the cake for the worst wings I’ve ever eaten by a decent margin. The flavor is decent, the buffalo sauce can pass for satisfactory, but the wings were so over cooked I couldn’t help but crack up laughing while eating them. Half the chicken in the wings was so tough it was literally like eating a piece of beef jerky. The service was quick, we ordered over the phone and the food was ready in 15 minutes. This is surprising since it seemed like the wings had been frying for an hour. Out of the 16 wings we ordered only two wings could even be called edible. The others were either too tough to chew or completely burnt until they were black. If you’re looking for wings in OC keep looking. If you’re looking for a slightly pretentious hipster craft beer bar…...
