SONU BBQ — Restaurant in Oceanside

It was our first time eating at SONU, but it definitely will not be our last! We were seated very quickly (hint: arrive early!), And our waiter was extremely fast with service the entire night. The proteins and veggies were fresh and amazing. The cook top was replaced frequently. We never ran out of anything and it all tasted amazing. Obviously becareful with kids because the grill is hot and within arms reach, but let them join in and help cook. They be needless at how fast everything come, you can use the time to teach about differences in cooking styles, and how to know when something is cooked enough to eat. Seeing is believing!

Here are a few tips I'd suggest. Make a reservation or get there early. I didn't realize how busy it was, but when we left there was a line out the door and around the building of people waiting. Let your grill cover get hot before you start cooking and request a new grill cover between every order. You can't go wrong with any of the proteins or veggies. Pork belly takes longer to cook and the octopus is whole. Unless you're an octopus expert it can be chewy so maybe go with the shrimp instead. This place is EVERYTHING!!! I come here at least twice a week because the food is absolutely amazing, but it’s the people who make it unforgettable. A huge shoutout to New Year, Jocelyn, and Ichen what an incredible team! They are so organized, on top of everything, and their customer service is next level!

New Year is the sweetest and makes every visit feel so special with her energy and kindness. Jocelyn is just as fantastic always making sure everything is perfect and Ichen is a rockstar! Together, they create such a fun and welcoming atmosphere that keeps me coming back again and again.

The food was good, my waiter was awesome but I still have room to complain. The music was extremely loud and the party of 12 to our left were so obnoxious it sounded like a pool hall complete with someone dropping a beer and breaking glass. They were never approached and asked to keep it down even when they were shouting at the top of their lungs... The option to pay $6 for a to go box is cool and we opted to do just that. We had a party of 10 & split the bill in half. I was told there would be a $25 extra charge for a party of six or more. I agreed thinking that's just an additional $12.50 a piece but no, they charged us each $25 on two separate checks of of 5 people. So that was pretty scandalous.
