Guess who? It's your favorite, the one and only: "Untapped Insta Critic" and today I will be evaluating the 'Mushroom Swiss Burger' at Hooters in Odessa, FL that I had for dinner last night.
Now I'm sure you're asking who, who, who 🦉 goes to HOOTERS, a wing place, and orders a burger? Well, this guy, that's who, who, who (haha, see what I did there?) and here is why: almost everything on the menu was fried ... fried Pickles, fried Buffalo Wings, fried Tator Tots, French Fries, fried Cheese Sticks, fried Chicken Strips, fried Chicken Sandwich, fried fish Sandwich, just to name a few. The options for non-fried food at Hooters was very limited but I knew that going in and special ordering on busy Friday night when having dinner with five other people is not cool and I am definitely not, not cool.
Let's get to the evaluation! This burger was actually pretty good. The bun was fresh, toasted, and not soggy. The burger was cooked as ordered, well seasoned, juicy, and full of flavor. The sauted mushrooms were plentiful and flavorful. They were nicely contained on top of the burger by two thick slices of Swiss cheese. So the sandwich wasn't falling apart as i ate it - which certainly appreciated! The sandwich toppings of onion, lettuce, and tomato were all fresh and made for a pleasant presentation. The opportunity with this meal, as expected, was the curly french fries that were an ️🆙️ charge. I must of had the bottom of the bag of these frozen fries because they were tiny. They were inconsistent in how well they were cooked and several crispy, double, or probably triple fried crumbs were sprinkled in. I asked for blue cheese for my fries - that was really good and was filled with sizable chunks of blue cheese but you guessed it, that's 🆙️ charge!
Important additionals to note: I had the chilli for an appetizer with onions for an 🆙 charge️ and shredded cheese for another 🆙️ charge. That was really, really good (5 out 5)
I had two Corona Light beer - second one was skunked 👎🏻(2.5 out of 5)
I am absolutely not a fan of condiments in packages (mayo, ketchup, mustard) at a sit down chain restaurant... Can I please get some mayo for my burger 😇? Sure have a handful 😳. On a positive note: At least there wasn't an up charge!
The wife had some salad that she said was good 🥗
Overall, giving this meal a 3 out of 5. I could of given a high rating but that would be an 🆙️ charge and I am tapped out on 🆙️ charges at this point.

Read moreWe've been to Hooters in Odessa a handful of times since it opened last year, the most recent being for lunch on Halloween 2021. The restaurant had a steady flow of people - the bar was pretty packed - but, we had no trouble being seated, at an inside table, right away. We are always met by kind & courteous staff, our servers have always been great. On this trip, our waitress was very pleasant & receptive to our needs, but not overbearing. Unfortunately, on this occasion, as has been the case a majority of our previous visits, the original, breaded wings had very little wing sauce & were extremely greasy, to the point that I had to use a napkin to absorb some of the grease before eating them.
There is a separate entrance on the north side of the building, with a sizeable area to sit, while waiting for carryout orders - instead of having to stand amongst or constantly move out of the way of - arriving/departing diners. (Note: a few times we've called to place an order & were routed to a recorded message, stating they weren't taking ToGo orders at that time.) We have ordered & picked up food several times in the past. As can be expected, the food wasn't as good when brought home. But, aside from being a bit soggy from the condensation of being boxed up (again, this is expected), the medium wings had very little, if any, sauce & were very greasy. We also typically order a couple orders of crab legs. Most of the time, they are cooked well & aren't mushy. However, several times, they didn't put any seasoning on them, so they tasted pretty watery & bland.
While this is one of the smaller locations that I've visited, it has always been very bright & clean. Because it's still relatively new, it doesn't have the stale bar smell that many other bar/restaurants have when you walk in. There are plenty of tv's throughout the entire restaurant, viewable from any table & of course, at the bar. The bathrooms have always been very clean & have plenty of supplies. We've never had an issue finding a parking spot close to the front door.
Overall, a nice, clean, well-staffed establishment. However, although we are huge fans of Hooters wings, I'm just not sure how quickly we'll go back, since the food hasn't been up to par during most of our...
Read moreThis used to be one of my favorite restaurants and I hate to leave it a 1 star review, but things have gone so far downhill! As a small business owner, my colleagues and I used to have monthly meetings here to discuss business, and we always had great food and great service, but things have changed. Decided to come here for my nephew's 18th birthday, with a group of 10 family members, and it was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. We ordered drinks, it took 20 minutes to get them, our waitress said "the bar has been busy," as I look around and half the restaurant is empty and no one is sitting at the bar. We ordered 3 appetizers, never got them, and after another 20 minutes, our waitress asked if we were ready to order. We ordered our meals, and after waiting nearly an hour, half of our food came out. Some of it was overdone, burnt to a crisp, and some was frozen, totally ice cold. They asked, "is the food ok?" we said "no, it's terrible, and half the table is missing their orders." After another 20 minutes, the rest of the food (expect for mine) came out, and it was all ice cold. The waitress came back and asked if we ever got our appetizers, we said no, then she went to the kitchen, and they came out right away, ice cold! We asked to speak to the manager, she gave us a "heavily discounted price," the food was free, but we still had to pay for the drinks we ordered which were warm and watered down from the ice melting after sitting on the bar counter for 20 minutes before they gave them to us. I never got my food order, and no one there probably even realizes it. But my 18 year old nephew had a terrible birthday dinner that he will never forget. They never even knew it was his birthday. But it doesn't matter, because we will never be back. And I encourage everyone reading this to do the same. Used to be a great restaurant, but as usual, poor management ruins everything. ...
