EDIT- I had to edit my review to reflect the nosedive this place has taken. Old Grist Mill has been my go to for years but I am at the point where if I really want old grist mill, it’s worth the drive to Kaysville because this location is a joke. I understand that they’re “training new staff”, but they have been “training new staff” for about a year now and it’s an old excuse for poor service. You can ask for and pay for something extra on a sandwich and they’ll put less than what a normal serving would be. Even when you ask for a signature grilled sandwich, it’s made wrong even though the ingredients are literally on a chalkboard on the wall above the grills. They close at 7, but they start putting the chairs up by 6:15. I told a girl that the root beer dispenser was broken and was spraying everywhere when you push it and she said okay and did nothing or told no one, she just looked at me like I was dumb for telling her. Half the time they’re playing really loud or inappropriate music so it’s uncomfortable to eat in the dining area. I’m disappointed because I love the fresh ingredients and great food when it’s made right, it’s just not worth dealing with the chaos now.
Original review: The service is VERY hit or miss but the food is great so it’s worth taking a gamble every...
Read moreI've enjoyed being a customer of Old Gristmill for a number of years, and while I do think they are a fine business, upon my last visit I noticed a number of issues that have lowered my opinion of them. Among these concerns include,
The store appeared to be dirty, with tables having solidified food stains on them and bread crumbs from previous customers.
The staff were unfriendly, not making an effort to smile or return small talk while having an already abrasive appearance. Certainly it is each employees choice how they present themselves and whether they return niceties or not, but there are effects from their actions.
In my case, my interactions with the staff left me feeling uncomfortable and drained, which paired with the unclean eating environment significantly reduced the enjoyment of my experience.
It's possible that this was simply an off day for the employees and that I am the only one who has experienced these problems, but I did experience them, and felt it necessary to include such details in my review.
Final thoughts, Still a good place to grab lunch every once in a while, but perhaps look to other...
Read moreDrove to Ogden to see Big Boy and stopped at the Old Grist Mill Bread Co. for lunch on the way back. This was my first time, but my wife and a friend have been here several times before and regard it as the best place for sandwiches in the area. We split a chicken bacon ranch with pepper jack. It was warm, tasty and chock full of big, fresh chicken breast chunks. Mmmm--so good! We also got a cinnamon apple tea scone and a butterscotch/chocolate chip tea scone. The latter were so good we bought two more and a cinnamon chip bran muffin to go.
As we made our way to the door, we got side-tracked by the racks of bread and ended up going back to the register for the 3rd time with a large, round loaf of cheesy potato bread (I've since learned this makes wonderful grilled sandwiches!) and some delicious-looking butter rolls. It's a good thing they are an hour from home. We can also confirm the positive things about cleanliness (restroom included), friendliness, reasonable pricing and quick service. We hadn't even seated ourselves before they called our name. Added that to...
