This mom and pop joint used to be a family favorite to eat at but things have changed quite a bit.
The food is inconsistent and tends to be very heavy with grease. My daughter had a stomach ache from eating the cheeseburger and chips from the sheer volume of grease. When I asked if a side of vegetables could be ordered in lieu of chips it, counted as an upcharge. There aren't healthy options on the kids menu and yet the staff decides to upcharge for trying to make a better choice?
The vegetable omelette was very heavy with eggs and cheese but very little filling, and the best part was the toast and hashbrowns. This individual had a stomach ache after eating there. The Briarfield salad I ordered also gave me a stomach ache. It wasn't the experience we hoped for.
Wait staff varies from helpful to neglectful. Your experience largely depends on who your waitress is. I do not recommend eating here. Waitstaff are attentive to regulars but ignores others. I'm disappointed in the changes made and am done...

It also appeared that no one wanted to assume the responsibility of clearing the table and seating the people waiting. If staffing is such an issue, then the owners should decide on which takes priority. Curbside or dine in. Obviously they can't handle both. It's not fair to their employees or the customer's waiting. Or maybe the owners should be there, just...
Read moreVisiting Toledo from Virginia (DC area) and followed the positive reviews to Briarfield Cafe. From the outside looked like many other joints - strip mall, clean. Entering was a great surprise - a crowd (always an excellent sign) and a wonderful mural of Paris - having been there I never expected a Paris Cafe in Toledo. The food lived up to the owners' goals - excellent. Special shout out to Paula our server. David (owner) please take notice and reward her. At the check out was the obituary of the wife half of the Cafe (sympathies) from three years ago. Glad to see it still going strong (and remembering their roots. Highly recommended. A non-chain jewel in an unexpected setting. GO!
PS only suggestion is that staff be informed of location of...
