8/26/22 Not clean - floor in customer area was very sticky. Person (was a man), during the entire time while taking my order than collecting my cash payment for my order, kept rubbing the end of his nose with his hand instead of excusing himself and getting a kleenix or paper towel to clean his nose with; also, kept picking the tip of his tongue with his fingers (saliva attached to fingers as fingers were coming off his tongue) as if he was picking off lint or whatever was on his tongue. After transaction was completed at cash register, he then went to a counter in the kitchen area, picked up what appeared to be previously used gloves and while attempting to put the gloves on his hands (gloves were already lying on counter with food on them) to prepare gyros (did not - until I asked him about washing his hands before putting on gloves since he was handling money - he stated that he was using gloves - I informed him that his hands were filthy & the gloves he was trying to put on had food on them and by him previously touching the gloves after completing my transaction at the cash register, germs were already transferred to the outside of the gloves; also, by not washing his hands first and then putting on clean gloves, germs would be transferred from the filthy gloves (he was trying to put on) onto gyros from his hands and gloves not being clean. gyros were horrible - not much of a taste, onions on gyros were not crunchy - more like limp, tomato tiny pieces - had no taste, cucumber sauce had so much garlic in it - you could not even tell it was cucumber sauce - did not taste anything like the delicious cucumber sauce with cucumber pieces mixed in with sauce Jay's use to make. Onion rings were gummy and not hot (not really warm either) nor crispy - my entire order was not worth the money - I do not know how the French fries were as I purchased French fries for someone else. Jay's use to have the best gyros & hot dogs in the 90's. I ordered chicken gyros - which was horrible in taste. I became very nauseated & suffered heartburn about 10 minutes after eating gyro along with onion rings - it was such a miserable & uncomfortable feeling. I will not be ordering any food from Jay's again. I would not advise people to order food online from Jay's - go inside Jay's to actually see how they are preparing your food order. I did not know ahead of time that the same person that handles the money would be the same person that would be preparing the food that I ordered - how gross especially when going from handling money (not washing hands after touching money) and going directly to putting on gloves (germs already transferred to the outside of the gloves from filthy hands from person that previously touched pencil to write out order on order slips, touching cash registered keys then touching the money before putting in cash register) before preparing the food you ordered. The Jay's that I went to is located in...

Every day with jays is never the same it always gets better.... well this statement has aged... jays isn't the same anymore. Chili is different and off the service isn't what it was after 40 yrs of coming here I'm going to just find something else burgers not the same some sub-par beef gyros about the same but something is just not right either. what has happened since the beginning of 2023 food quality is way down as a staple in the neighborhood and in boardman they probably will be shutting down soon owner is only about the money not the way Frank ran the place. Frank would be so disappointed in the way things have change as are every customer i have talked to. Sorry your new owner who lives all the way in Virginia has no real attachment to the area anymore. I just can't give my money anymore for sub-par products. If you change back to way Frank ran the place and cared for all of his employees like he did i will come back but not till then. PLEASE GO BACK TO THE OLD RECIPES AND FOOD QUALITY. It's not Jay's anymore. Went from a 5 star to a 2 star. Good luck but my money and families money wont be back. My friends told not to come here anymore because of the changes i wanted to give them a fair shake so i went back two more times this year and it's just BAD. Lisen to your friends and family...

I took my children to Jay's as a special treat. My husband likes this place, and when he took me here many years ago, I decided it wasn't impressive and avoided it. I thought I'd give it another chance and that was a major mistake. The corndogs came frozen out of a box...they then proceeded to fry them. When we got home, we saw that they had burned them and put them in the package anyway for us to discover after we'd left. The hotdog, their specialty, was deplorable. It was very dark brown on one side and really hard on that side...it wasn't edible and it smelled like a dog jerky treat. The chicken nuggets were mediocre at best but at least edible. The gyro was oddly spicy and lacked the traditional and delicious tzatziki sauce flavor...why??? Maybe the way to make their food edible is to load the hotdogs with chili and cheese so the chewy hotdog you're eating is disguised by the toppings. Why do people like this place??? Tip after you inspect your...

There are restaurants, and then there are institutions. Jay’s Famous Hot Dogs has been serving up chili dogs in the Youngstown area since 1920, and they’ve never missed. Started by Jay Pappas and still family-owned over 100 years later, Jay’s isn’t just about food. It’s about tradition. It’s the kind of place where you walk in and it smells like your childhood. I’ve been going to Jay’s my entire life. So has my family. Even when my dad flies back into town, one of the first places we hit is Jay’s. For me, it’s always the Jay’s Original which is chili, onions, mustard. Perfection in a bun. It’s simple, it’s local, and it’s timeless. If you know, you know. If you don’t, it’s time you find out. #youngstown #fyp #boardmanohio #hotdogs #youngstownohio

One of the better Gyros (say Yeer-ro) places in the local area. Especially since they're more a white owned establishment and not 'really' greek. The lemon chicken soup leaves something to be desired and is not the "Greek" I am use too and I'm not a fan of their Youngstown version of a Coney (we have a totally different version of this where I am from) but everything else is ok to good, especially the home cut fries, worth the trip when they're fresh and not refried. Just keep in mind, this is not a classy joint but they have remodeled and it's clean now. This place is like a permanent booth from a local carnival.

100 years of Hot Dog Goodness. Jays HotDogs / Jay’s Famous Hot Dogs in Boardman. I wasn’t too ambitious just two chili dogs with Onions no sides. Over the years this is probably my eighth visit. Solid, consistent hot dog with great homemade chili sauce. No-frills. Cash only. What you see is what you get.
