Sopapilla Express — Restaurant in Ohio

Trying new things can be hit or miss. I love trying restaurants I had never heard of, but this was a miss for me. I will explain.

The service was great! Friendly fine clean looking lady at the register eager to explain what the place serves 5 stars to her for politeness and patience. She did warn me, "Not your average Mexican restaurant." Left me curious if better or worse.

Presentation of the food was fine. Place looks clean enough in the dinning area. But overall flavour fell flat on its face as if it was riding a bicycle that got a wheel caught in a storm drain.

It's a glorified empanada/empanadilla (Spain, Mexico, Puerto Rico) or Sambusa (Africa) One of the problems here is that it's dough lacked flavour (the most basic of basic dough flavours is what I found here. No herbs to help it. It needs work. The salad topping had no accent to it. Bland tomato and lettuce. (Consider a hint of lime, cilantro, recao to boost flavour up) But hey! I'm hungry. Let's keep going...

The cheese was overpowering what little flavour the meat (beef) had. Meat tastes under-seasoned. Their sauces leave a lot to desire as well.

Lets talk about their sauces. The red sauce tasted like it was a mix of catsoup (yes i said ketchup), red sweet peppers few chiles or serranos and water (shake before use). Their green sauce didn't fair much better as if it were made from green sweet peppers with few if any jalapeños or chiles. But it was more acceptable. Think pico de gallo, with less flavour. Perhaps not made the same day? There is a difference. It's missing that crisp freshness along with flavor and heat. Did I get a bad batch? I wondered.

Overall the concept is not bad. I can see why they are still around. It's acceptable to most. The flavor is a problem for me.

To be fair, I am acquainted with authentic cooking in a multi-cultural up-bringing (Spanish, Asian, Arabic) . Not worth the $10.00 I spent when I have had better for $4.00. Again, it's not bad, but it could use more flavour.

Came to this location for a celebratory dinner for my four year old son who just finished his baseball season. When we walked in initially there weren’t many tables available. Understandable , with it being small. However, a large booth opened up so my family (two toddlers, four adults including two handicapped grandparents). We go to sit down and the woman a the front counter is physically yelling saying let me wipe the table down. I offer to wipe the table down for her and not only does she roll her eyes she swayed her hand with annoyance. I’m sorry it annoyed you so much I wanted my almost 80 year old parents to sit down after dealing with extreme heat at the ballpark. I explained to my father it was clear our business wasn’t wanted and the lady was being rude. When the woman asked at the front counter what I said I gladly told her she was rude and we were taking our business elsewhere. I highly recommend this location gets someone who understands the meaning of customer service because if she continues to treat people how she treated us I can’t imagine their business will be doing well much longer. How hard is it to be friendly? A simple hello when customers walk through the door could suffice. If someone offers to wipe a table down for you that’s a CUSTOMER try not to be such a witch. I won’t be coming back nor will I recommend it to anyone else. The food...

Horrible customer service they messed up on my order 2times in one night and wanted me to bring it back for the 3rd time for them to remake it after I said that's unacceptable driving as far as I have to and it's now 7 pm, there answered is well were loosing out on money so you have to bring it back tonight to have it remade smh also told me I should have checked it before I left and sure enough I should have but how do you mess up an order 2 times and the person at the windows verified they checked it and it's still wrong so unfortunate to not take accountability when it's CLEARLY YOUR FAULT AND IVE DONE MY DUE DILIGENCE DRIVING BACK TWICE ALREADY JUST RIDICULOUS!!!
