It's relatively new, so I hope the service improves but the staff seemed very poorly trained. We ordered our food, drinks and water. Server was pleasant and lackadaisical. Two young expediters would drop our food off and turn around so fast we couldn't finish our requests... For napkins, for silverware, for our water. We only got silverware after 4 of the 5 dishes had been out for 10 min and had to ask twice for it. We never got plates to use- even tho it's a shared menu and we didn't see the server again so we just ate over the table.
Food was ok. The greens in the cheese quesadilla tacos were really leggy- all these hard stems made biting into them difficult. The tuna/poke tostada's marinade might as well have been BBQ sauce. Shrimp cocktail ok. We spent close to $90 for 5 plates and two drinks and I was still hungry when I left.
Server dropped the payment at our table but left without allowing us to split the check. So we waited to ask if we could do that, then had to wait again after the POS interface changed so much we couldn't navigate how the second person could pay. I hear our experience is not unique unfortunately.
We ate outside which is always lovely on a summer day. I'll definitely go back to have a cocktail and listen to music one night and give it another go. In Ojai we are lucky to have another option for...
Read moreThis spot is really dope for lunchtime, though I haven’t checked out their nightlife yet. I’ve heard the evening scene is amazing, so that’s definitely on my list. Just a heads up, their burritos are super skinny, so don’t expect huge portions. But honestly, the flavors more than make up for it.
Food Highlights (4/5) -- Mushroom and Nopales Taco 5/5 - NEXT LEVEL!!! Maitake mushrooms, nopales, black bean, crema, avocado, salsa macha (contains peanuts)
-- Churros 5/5 - BITE SIZE, maybe two bites but fresh and DELISH! Whipped cream, dulce de leche
-- Crispy Lamb Carnitas Taco 4/5 Not bad for something new and NOT gamey tasting Local lamb, guacamole, salsa macha (contains peanuts), onion, cilantro
Ambiance & Service (3/5) The staff is pretty average, nothing fancy, but they get your order out without any hassle. It’s more functional than friendly, but no problems at all.
Parking (4/5) There’s a lot right next to the restaurant, plus some free street and perimeter parking, so you don’t have to stress about paying for parking or searching forever.
If you’re looking for some creative tacos and a cool lunch spot, this place is worth a try. Just don’t expect big burritos, but the taste and quality more than make...
Read moreGreat food, great drinks, great vibe with one BIG caveat: I cannot recommend going to this restaurant if you have a food allergy.
Before ordering I mentioned that I had an allergy to Peanuts. Several tacos had a salsa macha that has peanuts and I asked for one to come without. The server then proceeded to bring 4 of the same taco on the same plate, 3 with peanuts and 1 without. Red flag #1 I asked if the server knew which taco was without peanuts and they did not, having to go back and ask. Red flag #2.
Obviously I ate at this bar/restaurant fully aware that cross contamination could be a thing; the menu also had proper warnings. However staff and chefs should be trained to reduce exposure and separate foods for those with allergies. Hopefully this changes since everything else about this place...
