So the Inn itself is super cute. Lots of adorable little details that make it very charming and comfortable. The onsite bar, Chief's Peak is also great, and bonus points for being dog-friendly. Everyone on the staff we interacted with seemed lovely and nice.||||Unfortunately, the quality of our stay was negatively affected by noise levels. The Inn is on a busy street so there's lots of noise from that, plus it's old so the heater and plumbing are crazy loud and you hear every bump and rattle. Also, on both Friday and Saturday, we were really, really disturbed by other guests on the property. They were acting as if they had the whole place bought out, running around the parking lot and screaming until late in the night. When we were coming home from dinner on Saturday we saw two men in the car in the parking lot snorting drugs in their BMW (with the lights on). This is unsettling. I understand there's not a ton the Inn can do but some mild enforcement or even signs about keeping noise levels down might have an impact. ||||The Inn is also overpriced for what it is, which is a cute motel. There are few amenities and aside from being cute aesthetically, I don't think it should be more than $200/night.||||Overall we did enjoy our stay but it's not the place to go if you want a peaceful Ojai weekend. We were exhausted on Sunday from not really having slept both nights despite...
Read moreThe Ojai Rancho Inn is a small motor lodge that looks like it was built in the 1950's. When you first arrive, it's not too impressive, visually. But the place grows on you - it's got that "Ojai funky" feel. If you go, get #19, which is the largest room. It's at the rear, and faces on a wide grassy garden area, and adjoins the pool and a small sauna on the other side. I did not see any rooms other than ours, which was furnished in knotty pine, with a synthetic wood floor (practical). The bed was plenty large (king or California king size) and a bit soft for my tastes, but very comfortable. The gas fireplace was a very nice amenity. Unfortunately, it stopped working at one point during the night. The bathroom was large, and everything was clean.
We were not charged for an air mattress for our third person, which was nice. I was told when departing that I'd receive a discount for the fireplace not working. I didn't ask for it, wasn't expecting it, but the clerk offered that. It showed up on my credit card a day or two after the charges.
The rear of the property abuts a hiking trail, which is a benefit. The property is about a half-mile walk from...
Read moreFirst and foremost, the best thing they have going for them, aside from the wonderfully helpful reception, is their King-sized beds. WOW, are they comfortable. IF it weren't for the beautiful sights just outside the walls I'd probably stay in all day. ||||The pool and rec area behind Chief's Peak bar are also a marvelous selling point. Nice shower and sauna room, with a firepit and activities next to the pool (even a hammock!). ||||Downsides: the bar ain't cheap. And the random noises, cracks, and paper thin walls may cause a distaste. I stayed during the week and even some of the sounds coming from the rooms next to me, and the chatter and cars outside the door was a big frustrating. ||||The rooms themselves are pretty dark, with log walls and slate floors. Additionally, my room included a fridge, microwave, beer and wine openers, and a nice desk. ||||Also, the earthen-smelling soaps and lotion they include in the bathrooms may not be for everyone. ||||THAT SAID - what a unique property. Fantastic staff. Comfy bed. Great shower head. And again, wonderful location next to...
