Sakura Ojai — Restaurant in Ojai

We put in an online order that said it would be ready in 35 min. I dont mind waiting extra but after 60 min after our order was placed and 30 min after I had arrived, I checked in to see how much longer the wait. The young waiter was super helpful and said it was waiting for 1 roll. He checked in with the chef who had said he already had gave it. It was clear they forgot or lost the ticket for that one roll. I'm not sure how long the others rolls had been sitting out at this point. The hostess or manager who was seating and handling take out orders came in and was irritated and told me I was to wait outside. I told her it had been an hour and clear the chef's didn't have the ticket as she walked away. After another 25 min wait I asked the young waiter again and he said "it should be done." It was. It was all sitting there. The hostess/manager came in grabbed my order from him and began telling him that wasnt his job. He said he was just trying to help since I waited so long. I know half my order had been sitting our for over 30 minutes which isn't good for raw fish. The hostess/manager kept talking to him telling him I could wait. I had already prepaid or I would have left so I asked the woman for my order and she only gave it when other customers turned. She never offered any kind word or apologies for the wait. In the time I waited, they sat people who just arrived before people who had waited 30 min or more for a table. She couldn't keep the names of people in order to sit them. I'm so glad I gave this place a second chance. I ordered take out from here a few years ago and the order was all wrong, items were missing and the sushi just wasn't good. We called and spoke to the owner & to his credit, he did offer to buy our dinner if we came back but we never did because we didn't like the sushi the first time around. But on a recent visit to Ojai, a friend wanted sushi and the options in Ojai are limited. Not feeling like driving down to Ventura or Oxnard, I decided to give Sakura another shot. Any restaurant can have an off night. The sushi was fresh, delicious & beautifully presented. The service started out strong but got REALLY weak once they got a little busy. I waited 20 min when we were done to ask for a check & a box but our server had vanished so I had to get up & hunt someone down so we could pay & leave. It's Saturday night, staff up! This experience was disappointing in more ways than one. The wait for take-out was quoted at 40min, and it took 1.5hr for our food to be ready. The hostess was rude and did not make eye contact or apologize in any way for the extended wait time - just handed us the food and didn't say a word. When we finally got it home, we were missing multiple things we had ordered and paid for. The bento box was missing both the salad and the sushi to go with it, and the tiny portion of chicken actually made us laugh. I called to ask for the missing items to be refunded, and the hostess told us she was unable to do that and would have her manager call me back.
