4.5 stars. Let me start by saying I had very high hopes for this place. Thankfully, they delivered on almost everything. First, their menu is much more than just tacos as the name would lead you to believe, so if tacos aren't your thing (weirdo), you can still enjoy the food. They have nachos, quesadillas, fajitas, tacos, enchiladas, traditional combo plates, burritos, and some lighter options like salads and such. We started with chips and salsa and I ordered all three varieties offered - traditional mild red, medium verde, and hot habanero. This is where I sandwich my one negative comment amongst the positive ones...the salsa was just OK. Not bad, but eh, left some to be desired. The mild didn't have a ton of flavor, the verde was good but I wouldn't say the spice level was "medium" - it was mild at best - and the habanero had a fantastic flavor, but was not "hot". It did eventually provide a tingly tongue and runny nose, but it was not your standard habanero, mouth on fire heat. I am happy to report that the chips were freshly made, thick, and delicious. Judging by the chips, I bet the nachos are bomb. Now, on to the main event. It is against the very nature of my being it not order tacos at a "taco joint" so that's what I went with. I ordered one Baja fish with beer battered cod (they offer a shrimp option too), a barbacoa brisket, and an al pastor pork. Shut. The. Front. Door. All three were drop dead delicious! The beer battered cod on the baja fish taco was a touch overcooked, but not enough to mess up the wonderful synergy happening between the fish, pickled veggies, and creamy sauce. The barbacoa was literally the most tender and flavorful brisket I've had in a long while - it was smokey, yet not overpowering, salty from the cotija cheese, and just overall savory goodness - I couldn't get enough. Lastly, the al pastor topped with pineapple, cotija cheese, and cilantro was a traditional take and packed with flavor. What sold this one for me was they crisped up the pork just a bit before adding it to the taco. Yum. Bonus- my mom got a barbacoa (delish) and a "hacienda" which is their standard crispy beef taco. She said, and I quote, "the taco had the perfect ratio of ground beef to toppings (lettuce, tomato, cheese, and she also got sour cream and guac) and the shell was crispy and not soggy". That is literally the worst when the meat is so greasy the taco shell just falls apart. Not here, it was "perfection". I also ordered a michelada (Mexican beer and tomato/bloody Mary mix), which was pretty good. The staff was friendly, prompt, attentive, and knowledgeable. I will definitely return and cannot wait to try something else. Nice job,...
Read moreI had lunch on Sunday, but this place is open for brunch starting at 10a. They have seriously original menu items, specials and a brunch menu. Many people in line today said they were first time visitors and were eager about the options. The fried avocado taco is apparently a big favorite and the ahi is steak tuna. Tacos come in a taco stand, and many people order the platter so these are mixed as you wish. They offer a full bar, but the bartender was out today, and they had quite a busy order counter, 3 men I think one the owner were madly scrambling to help get plated food or to go to the diners. The offer a variety of sauces for any taco. Tamales and Posole. They often have a soup special which is popular. They have enchiladas and other things. This menu is large. They are in the North Park Mall directly inside the West entrance facing North May Avenue, to the North of BC Clark Jewelers. They are faithful to open and are a great place to drop in to meet someone for a snack, drink or meal. The place is clean, has TV I think but most people are here for the food. They have kids plates and high chairs. They make individual servings nachos. They want to please customers and two different staff checked on me at my dune in meal.I has the ahi steak taco, fried avocado taco and the carnitas taco today. I did not get to see the whole menu. Many people come walk at the mall and meet up here for coffee, a drink, a Mexican soda or other specialty or seasonal non-alcoholic or alcohol beverages ....lunch, dinner or brunch. They can cater. And they do an equal amount of eat in and take out business..If you have dietary concerns or need to pick up from your car or want to know for sure the car is open, call before you go! They have seating in the restaurant, in the mall and on the entry patio. Can serve 1-10 people at tables and they have booths and...
Read moreWent here the other day after seeing someone on youtube do the 90 dollar taco challenge. We were excited to try out the giant tacos for ourselves. We ordered our two Chicken tacos at $25.00 each and drinks. The ice machine didn't work, the soda machine only had a few flavors filled. The tables were dirty so we decided to eat out in the entrance to the mall. After waiting 20 minutes the lady at register came up to us and said they ran out of chicken for the day and the kitchen had filled out tacos with beef without asking her or us. We had a movie to get to and couldn't wait any longer so decided sure let's try the beef. I remember saying I sure hope it's their shredded beef and waited for our tacos to come out. When they arrived they were not the advertised tacos in the youtube video. They didn't have any of the innards that were shown with the video. It had cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and some sam's club, coits greasy ground beef. The thing was huge but was dripping wet with all the grease that came with that meat. Now usually is be okay with it but we paid 25 dollars a taco to get the cheap Coits beef. The manager shouldn't have lied about the chicken as we saw plenty of orders come out after ours that had the chicken inside. He also should have come out to apologize about 25 dollar taco mishap. There were 2 other tacos in the challenge that they should have given us instead of the nasty ground beef. All in all I don't think we will be returning here since there are so many other awesome taco places that do a better job at ruining their business. If you advertise a challenge taco you should give the customer the challenge taco or else quit...
