It's kind of plain and very open concept which is different and it is a big space to fill but that's so little of a restaurant's actual value as a goto place.
I had the Guiso Ranchero which wasn't as spicy as I'm normally used to in a Roja Guiso but still extremely flavorful and the beef perfectly simmered in it. Ask for tortillas as they weren't part of it for some reason. I've always eaten a Guiso with tortillas. But I digress...
My Mom had the Manchame Chicken which featured a grilled chicken breast smothered in what looked like Cotija queso fresco and chorizo on top. Typically Chorizo is spicy but this was a milder flavor with the chicken.
My buddy had the crispy beef tacos and he finished them all which is unusual for him and he said everything was fresh. I hate it when cooks are sloppy with the ground meat and include the juices that saturate the crispy taco thereby causing its eventual failure in your hand. Not this time as they were really crispy from start to finish.
Lastly, we had the Flan which is a favorite sort if tres leches custard with Caramel sauce. This also featured whip cream and blueberries which is something I will be doing from now on. The berries weren't sweetened so they paired perfectly with the sweet custard and caramel.
If I had one criticism that I did not favor was the hotter salsa. It looks like baby food or poop and is more than likely fried jalapeños that were blended after frying. It's not a good way to do a hot salsa. Just get a habeñero and make it fresh like the red salsa. The fried jalapeños are the lazy way of making hot salsa and it doesn't work if they knew about the gastronomy of capsaicin and how it works.
A typical saying in Spanish is, El Sabor Que Le Gusta which means the flavor you like and it's true, you have to try it and help a good business out. This is it I swear, the Queso is real Queso Blanco and thick not watered-down cheese-flavored...
Read moreI've been supporting this restaurant since it opened, both dine-in and take-out. While the food consistently meets expectations, the service has never been stellar. During a recent visit with an out-of-town friend and her son, our experience took a disappointing turn. Despite enjoying our meal, the lackluster service became apparent when we encountered a concerning incident with the dessert selection.
Our waitress offered dessert and rattled off the choices. My friend's son chose the tres leche cake. However, the dessert arrived with nuts sprinkled on top. My friend acted quickly, recognizing her son's allergy. She put it aside while we waited for our waitress to return. Despite our apologies for not knowing it had nuts and request to swap it for a churro, we were met with resistance from a particularly unaccommodating staff member.
This individual approached our table with an interpreter in tow, refusing to remove the dessert from our bill due to it being covered in a liquid and they could not resell the dessert. This was also a red flag for me as you do not resell food that has been on a table.
Despite our explanation of the unforeseen allergy and our lack of access to a menu during ordering, our concerns were dismissed. This woman actually laughed at us when we tried to re-explain that we did not have a menu. After some back and forth they did not correct the situation. My friend was stuck with paying for an uneaten dessert.
Consequently, my family and friends will no longer be supporting this establishment, as we cannot endorse a venue unwilling to prioritize the well-being and satisfaction of...
Read moreI drove into this strip mall by mistake last week and saw this little restaurant stuffed in the corner. A few days later, the wife and I went to check it out. It's bright and open inside, plenty of space, lots of tables and booths line the walls. While there are items on the walls, I felt it was lacking in charm that you'd expect from a Mexican restaurant. The tables and menus were clean, as was the entire restaurant (a good sign). Ordered a coke in a bottle with real cane sugar and three "Mexican tacos" from the menu. The portions of the three soft tacos, rice and beans, were decent for the cost ($11.99). I got chicken, pork, and steak tacos. The meat on its own could have had more flavor, I tend to like spices (not necessarily "hot-n-spicy" but flavorful). That said, with the fresh onions, cilantro, and a healthy squeeze of lime, the tacos were pretty good. The rice was excellent! So many restaurants use the same ingredients sourced from one or two restaurant food supply companies, so they all taste the same. This Spanish rice was flavorful, fluffy, didn't stick together and wasn't over cooked or fried. The refried beans were the same that you'd get at any other Mexican restaurant in the city. Meh. The service was excellent. Our server was polite, prompt and knew the menu. The food came as ordered and piping hot. The chips and salsa were okay, I wanted the salsa to have more of a bite as well, instead it was very tomato-ie. Overall, a positive experience and will go again as there are plenty more items on the...
