I'm something of a weekend regular here. The crowds are varied, and usually don't attract a lot of the same type of people week to week. I've seen hardcore cyclists, churchgoers, students, young professionals, old professionals, neighbors, artists, you name it... people are here!
The shop is quirky, covered in Red Cup themed art from local artists all over the walls. The whole place brings together the best of the Paseo district combined with its own unique brand of eclecticism.
While the coffee (roasted in house I believe) isn't the best I've had in OKC, it's local and it tastes GOOD. They know what they're doing with the beans. You can always find at least a half pound bag of beans in my apartment, but they don't last too long. This is my go-to place for weekend homework sessions or a quick respite after a ride to/around lake Hefner.
What really keeps me coming back are the food and the pastries. They offer things baked in house and from local bakers, particularly Mim's Bakery--this is a great place to go if you want to try their cookies before ordering them! The muffins are good, and you have NOT lived until you've tried a tiger butter brownie... they have coffee in them... if you haven't had one, you're missing out.
The Red Cup is the only vegetarian restaurant in the vicinity of my apartment. It's a destination shop, good for breakfast and lunch with unique menu items. Try the Epic or the #8, and don't forget the...
Read moreI have a new favorite place to dine in OKC. The Red Cup is much more than amazing coffee in large porcelain cups. No, it is a 100% vegetarian and vegan restaurant that serves amazing food.
Located mere feet off North Classen, which was the original 1926 alignment of Historic Route 66, it is as much given to quirky art as it is progressive fare. Inside and out, it is a feast for starving eyes and stomachs.
I went with the Vagabond, a tofu scramble with potatoes, broccoli, onions, pepper, tomatoes, and cashew “cheese” sauce. Two slices of rainbow bread toast filled out the generous serving, all of which came delightfully fast in spite of it being very crowded.
There’s a full menu of delightful options, and it will take several subsequent visits to get a better sampling. But if all the others are as good as my scramble, then this place is for keeps on my must-hit places in OKC. The Red Cup is so committed to the plant-based scene that cashew cheese and tofu are the default settings. You have to ask for egg or real cheese, a total flip from what I am accustomed to. It’s a nice change! Were it not so chilly and damp on my visit, I would have sat outside, which I am sure is delightful in warmer months. But for this time, I was content to be inside where it was warm, and the food and coffee warmed my soul even more....
Read moreThe Red Cup was highly recommend for their vegan menu. I showed up with medical issues that prevent me from wearing a mask directly on my face. I have letters from my medical team and a service dog everywhere I go to alert in said issues. When I arrived I carried a face shield close to my face but not to impede my breathing or apply pressure to my facial areas. I was immediately stopped by a female employee that told me I could not enter or dine in the establishment unless I put the mask on my head or face. I explained I was fully covered but could not "wear" the mask due to my conditions. She said she would not take my order without me wearing it ans I told her I had a doctor's letter stating masks were counterproductive to my treatment and warned hwr her modifications would need to be made to accommodation the circumstances. She refused so I let her know I would be in contact with the Justice Dept for medical discrimination. She did not care.
That face shield covered more than her paper mask ever could and she yet I was treated rudely and unprofessionally. If this is an employee problem then please let the owner speak up... This was all sorts of wrong... As of now the Red Cup will not recieve any of mine or my vegan friend's business. No one should be treated in such a...
