First, the bathrooms had no hand soap and we watched multiple staff who handle food go in and out and now know they didn't wash their hands. Gross. The 1 star is also for for the manager that was on duty at 6:15 PM June 26th. She was incredibly unkept (terrible teeth and dirty looking). Now on to why all this matters. Beacon Hills was one of my best friends favorite restaurants and she invited us out to try this (new to us) restaurant. Last night, when we arrived, we were given the option to sit outside or at the bar as there was a large party coming in. We chose the patio. When the hostess brought us out, she said we could sit anywhere. We were the only people out there. We picked a table. When the hostess went in, we realized one of us was sitting directly in the sun and, being 90 degrees out, she was uncomfortable. Near us, in the shade was 2 tables set up for a 6 top. We moved one over about 3 feet into the shade. Our waitress came out and didn't say anything about it. We ordered drinks and food. Our food took 45 minutes to come out, which was fine, we were just relaxing and drinking our drinks. As our food comes out, the manager comes out and asks if we moved the table. We said that we did and she reprimanded us about how it was set as a 6 top for a reason and they would have to move it back when we left. We apologized but were taken aback at how uncomfortable the situation was. The manager continued to berate us for a few minutes while other patrons (now sitting out there with us) watched uncomfortably. A little while later, our waitress came out and apologized for the manager. We explained that we were told we could sit anywhere and we had been sitting there for 45 minutes before the food came. If anyone has said anything to us, we gladly would have moved but she waited until our food came out. We were right in front of a window by the bar, so I doubt she hadn't noticed until then. The whole thing just seemed very unnecessary and unfortunately, has turned my best friend as well as myself and my husband off from Beacon Hill. I won't be back and I will make sure to communicate this to everyone I come in contact with. I feel service in general has gone down but this was the worst I have ever been treated. Not to mention we spent well over 100.$ and tipped 45% since the our server was mortified...
Read moreI was excited to try this place as it seemed to have great potential. The atmosphere is good, with just the right lighting, decor and music volume.
The staff were polite, though our service was a pretty slow. Normally, I would chock this up to the difficulties understaffing right now, however, we saw employees standing around hanging out quite a bit.
We ordered hush puppies as an appetizer. They were good; nice and crispy exterior and a light interior. They had both a hint of sweetness and spice. I'm not a big fan of hush puppies, so I can't say they were fantastic. But I did eat two so, for a hush puppy, they were great.
I ordered crab cakes with sides of mac & cheese and a garlic cheese roll. My husband ordered a BBQ bacon burger with fries.
He didn't care for the burger much. I think he didn't like the heavy hickory seasoning on it. I thought it was very flavorful, but I can see that eating the whole thing might be a bit too much. He said that he thought the fries were the new type of fry that is supposed to stay crispy. Which he doesn't care for because they have this thick coating on them.
All of my food lacked flavor. It wasn't bad, it just almost wasn't anything. The only flavor was in the sauce for the crab cakes (which was nicely flavored with a little heat in it) and on the exterior of the garlic cheese roll. However, the garlic cheese roll also lacked flavor. There was strong flavor on the exterior of the roll (it is covered in herbs & spices), however the roll itself doesn't taste like anything (like bread). It was well cooked, with a nice crust on the exterior, but didn't taste like bread.
The crab cakes and mac & cheese were also well cooked. It's really the flavor that they are struggling with.
I felt like the restaurant is good at the idea of a wonderful restaurant, but not at actually being a...
Read moreWe ate here for the first time last year during the summer arts festival and had a good meal so we decided to try it again today. When we walked in there were two couples ahead of us waiting to be seated. We waited for about 10 minutes and finally, the hostess came over to seat people-- she had been busing tables. She took the first couple out to the patio and another single woman walked in behind us, and we moved aside away from the door, because there is no waiting area to let her in. Then the waitress seated the next couple who had also been waiting a long time, and when she came back, she started to seat the single woman that came in and we let her know that we were the next to be seated. The single woman started arguing that she had been there first, which was absolutely not the case--as long as we had been standing there waiting we knew there were four people in front of us – doesn't take a genius to be able to see that! When the woman started arguing, we backed down, apologized to let her go next then she kept attacking us, verbally saying that we were the rude ones. We decided to leave and went to DJs dugout for a great burger and tater tots. This whole situation would've been avoided if this restaurant hired bus help or had the wait staff clear the tables instead of giving that job to the hostess. I am sure I will never go back here again – there are WAY too many places to eat in Omaha. BTW, when I checked prices to reserve their party room last year, it was $2000 or some outrageous figure like that. We held our reception at Charlie's on the...
