My husband and I wanted to find a cute new Sunday breakfast spot that we could go to on a regular basis. We actually get food quite often from the Phoenix next-door and they have been always absolutely amazing to us so We had wanted to try Billy’s Cafe for a while and this morning we finally went. Well, that was a HUGE MISTAKE !!
When we walked in no one greeted us. We just got yelled at from the back of the restaurant “ Go seat yourself”. My husband and I were kind of taking him back, but we figured they were just busy at the moment. After we sat down, this older lady came over and asked if we wanted straws we said yes, and she put down 1 straw for The 2 of us. . . After that, we went to order. I ordered my food and then when my husband went to order his food he asked for toast with his eggs and our waitress pretty much yelled at him and said “ They don’t come with toast” And we asked if we could add it and she then said “ We will take the meat off”. We were completely taken back Because we just wanted to add a side of toast. We didn’t want to push it anymore because we don’t like confrontation so we just dropped it from there. When we got our food The waitress asked if we wanted ketchup and completely ignored my husband when he said yes. When she came back to our table and I said yes, we did want some ketchup and then I also asked for a straw for my husband. She made a rude remark of “oh, you didn’t want it before”. . . . She came back with the ketchup and the straw. After only 2 minutes Later she came back with our bill and she took my husband’s straw (because I guess there is a time limit. You will have to put your straw in your cup.)
After we ate, I put my debit card on the table and our waitress glared at us and made another rude remark and said “we only take cash”. So I then went to the gas station and got some cash (I am not paying no convenience ATM machine lol) while I was at the gas station for 5 minutes my husband was at the table with my Purse. My husband said a couple minutes before I walked in our waitress, said to him “ What ? your wife couldn’t figure out the ATM” My husband did ignore her at this point Because it seemed she was looking for a reaction from him. She then said in a more aggressive, louder tone “What? Is the ATM broken or something?” I was walking in at this point so I put the cash on the table and we left.
This has to be the worst experience we have had at a restaurant ever. We were treated so poorly, and if you are not a regular there, you are not a person. There seems like there is no respect for customers there. We are still on the hunt for a new breakfast Sunday spot!
We know these things seem minor, but when you add them all up And the attitude of our waitress you just realize the whole experience from start to finish...
Read moreI would definitely agree with all of the "greasy spoon" reviews. Billy's cafe does have some home made food for sure. I wish I had taken a few photos of the food and atmosphere but I was so hungry I had forgotten to.
We were greeted by a friendly wait staff and were told that we could sit anywhere we would like so we chose a booth. Right away I seen a few ketchup stains on the wall next to me. The coffee cups were upside down on the tables. Coming in for breakfast, I was hankering for coffee so we had turned our cups over to find they were still wet on the inside. We decided to unravel our napkins to wipe them out to find a fork that had some caked on food still, her knife was sticky with syrup, and some caked on food on my wife's coffee cup. The waitress did notice these things as well and brought out some new utensils for my wife.
As we glanced over the menu, I was overhearing almost everyone in the cafe was raving about their food as they ate. I was quite excited to see how our food would turned out. My wife ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs, side of hash browns, and dollar pancakes. I had ordered the chicken fried steak omelette with side of hash browns, pancakes, and a half order of biscuits and gravy (the way to any real man's heart is through some good biscuits and gravy).
I was impressed on how the food did take some quality time to come out but when it did, it looked like most of the photos on here. I would agree with the "mediocrity" most others are saying about it as well. I do agree that it did taste mostly homemade, but there were parts of the food that didn't. The gravy was a bit jiggly, the biscuits we're a bit thick. The hash browns were crisp and tasty. I can say my omelette was pretty good though. The onions really stood out to me. My wife's chicken fried steak tasted a little more like a pork tenderloin, though, and the pancakes we're pretty decent.
If your in to the greasy spoon type of diners, this place is for you. It is cheap, we only spent about $25 for our food.
If you are considering a visit, I would suggest during a time when it isn't too busy to ensure the accuracy, quality, and cleanliness of...
Read moreSunday morning, about 11 o'clock, most places are teeming with customers for brunch, we decided to drive by Billy's Cafe on Blondo. We walked in the restaurant at 11:10 and immediately found a booth. The waitress cleared the table from the previous customers and brought coffee, but was a little hurried and spilled the coffee on the table, I had to ask for a towel be brought so it could be wiped up. We ordered shortly after that. The waitress brought a coffee refill shortly after that. We watched as the tables that were already there when we came in were served and we were anticipating our order. But it never came. Soon the tables that were seated after us were enjoying a meal, but not us. At 11:50 I signaled the waitress and asked what the hold up would be and why are others that came in after us were eating and we weren't. She explained that it wasn't her fault, the cook threw her orders back to her and didn't cook them an my order was lost. I requested a bill for the coffees and said it was time to leave. She said no charge. I left no tip, I just wasted 40+ minutes waiting for nothing, and the coffee tasted like the cheapest Folgers and very weak at that. My experience is one you can avoid by staying...
