I visited this location a few years ago, but coming back today left me extremely disappointed and feeling like I wasted my money. The only reason they are getting two stars and not one is because I did enjoy my drink, though I do not believe you can easily screw up a taro milk tea.
The service was awful. As someone who has worked with customers all of my life, it is easy to tell when the person helping you simply does not care. The first thing I noticed upon entering was the disgusting scent of burning plastic. I was not the only one to notice it but the staff dismissed it and LAUGHED when I was showing concern. It was rude and disrespectful. I understand if you are in the building the whole day, you may not notice the smell but to shrug off a customers concern like that was completely inappropriate. I contemplated calling the fire department to check it out because it smelt so bad, but was worried it would be a waste of their time.
I ordered 2 onigiris and 1 takoyaki along with 2 taro milk teas. The food was gross. I couldn’t eat even half of my share of food. Let’s start with my shrimp tempura onigiri, the rice tasted old and dry. If the rice was fresh and had some mirin for example, I think that would make a big difference. The shrimp tempura tasted awful however. Probably frozen and tossed in a microwave. It was spongey and had little meat. I have never had spongey tempura. I usually love takoyaki, but this is the worst I have ever had. The presentation was awful and it tasted very sour to me which was alarming.
The employees seemed miserable and you could tell from the moment you walk in. You aren’t greeted, or spoken to in a kind matter. If I didn’t know better I would have thought they were in some sort of pathetic boba purgatory. My experience with the location on Dodge St has always been significantly better and I think this store could learn from them.
The boba itself was good, tastes how it does no matter where I go so that is not a special compliment but the expected bare minimum. That being said, I will happily take my business and boba needs to anywhere else but this store. A truly pathetic experience that left me...
Read moreThe drinks here are ok. My reason for the 1 star is that i don’t understand how there isn’t a nutritional breakdown for the drinks that you are drinking.
I called and spoke to the manager and asked what the nutritional breakdown for the drinks on his menu were because I wanted to drink something that had lower carbs / sugar .
I was informed that since it is a small family owned business they are not mandated to post the nutritional information and that is why they do not. A drink menu that says “light” but gives no context as to what they define as “light” in regards to nutrition seems misleading.
I was Also told that it would take to much time to break down each drink to find out what is in it and that posting the nutritional information would “give away the recipe” . I feel like that is a lazy response to a customer that just wants to know what is in the drinks so that I can order accordingly to meet my needs. It should not be that difficult to have a complimentary nutritional sheet for your drinks so the customer can make an educated decision based off that.
So essentially as a customer your options here are that you can purchase a drink, but will have 0 knowledge as to what the caloric / nutritional information of the drink is or what the amount of sugar/ carbs you drank was. That’s absolutely ridiculous and it leaves the customer in the dark as to what they...
Read more$4.50 for a drink. Service was impeccably slow. They were “sold out” of boba. How is that even possible when this is a boba tea store.
Didn’t get the hype. All highly processed sugars and powders, they pored out tea from big jugs, but I wish I knew what was in them though, as everything else here seemed to be processed. Overall, this place was Loads of Sugar, Powder, and syrups. If you think this is anything like Japan, or Taiwan - please, think again - my experience here, compared to actual boba places differs drastically. This is very American, sugary, unhealthy. But all the college kids are here, and line up for 20 minutes just to order. Last, For how much plastic this place uses it would be nice if they’d have Recycling bins. Everything this store produces is plastic? Just recycle instead of trash. ♻️ like actual tea places in Japan and Taiwan, maybe because those country’s care about the...
