I was traveling across country quickly on I80 and wish I had more time to make stops at game stores / cafes that I've heard about along the way, but I'm glad that this was the one I took the time for. I am not familiar with Omaha or where Spielbound lies within the city, but it seemed to be nestled on a somewhat quiet street in a sort of business-district, fantastic for after-school / after-work gamers to enjoy quiet drinks and games. The exterior of the building has been curated to appear as a fairy-tale-esque bookshop, with a quaint logo and inviting appearance. Once inside you're greeted by a small selection of games to buy including some new releases and other harder-to-find rarities that you wouldn't find in the "new" rotation at another board game retailer. The size of the buy shelves aren't much to write home about, but that's not what this place is about. More importantly, the main room has a stocked cafe and a friendly staff that greets you, makes you feel welcome, and is more than happy to chat and make recommendations. Cafe tables are sized to be equipped for board games, which is honestly something a lot of other game cafes don't account for. Then you walk into the game library and are met with a vibrant, colorful collection of over 3,000 board games from old classics to releases that literally dropped earlier that week. The collection is impressive, to say the least and is one of the largest playable collections I've seen—and that's saying something since I work in the industry and travel the country visiting local game stores and conventions. All in all, whether you're stopping by in Omaha for a break on the long road or you're a local looking to try something new: Spielbound Game Cafe should be the answer.

We go to speilbound almost every other night. The atmosphere is great, most of the workers are super nice and helpful, their drinks and food (although a little pricey) are the best!! They do let you bring your own food in if you want, and that seals the deal for us. It's only five dollars for a day pass (they do have various deals for family passes or month/year passes), and you can play as many games as you want for the whole day so it's pretty reasonable. What we love though, is that they have a but load of awesome board games! They have games in lots of categories, if your going with a group of people who aren't very experienced board game players, then they have party or dexterity games, if your looking to hunker down in those 6-hour dungeon crawl/rpg, they got those too. On Wednesday nights (starting pretty late) they have trivia, and it's very loud, so it's hard to play games with a group when that's going on, it's not a deterrent or anything, just if your planning on bringing a group, maybe not Wednesday night.

Pros: It has LOTS of games! It also has private rooms which are great if you want to get get away noise around you. An obvious pro is there are food and drinks available which encourage you stay longer. Lastly, the day pass is really affordable.

Cons: The place is not very clean. Every table had crumbs and/or was “sticky”. The bathrooms were also not cleaned. The carpet looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed in weeks. The lack of cleanliness made me and my friends not want to return again.

Ways to improve: I notice that many of the seats were torn or broken. Maybe you could replace the seats with new ones? I also noticed your walls had scuffs, stains, and chips. Maybe you could wash the walls or apply a new fresh coat of paint? One area of the establishment has concrete flooring, which is uneven. Maybe place some tiles down? Although most people in the nerd community may not pay attention to these details, these small differences can make a huge impact on the overall atmosphere and vibe. Unrelated side note, to the extent of my knowledge there is no system to find the “easy adult” games. If you guys do have it already, Maybe making it easier to access/ find? If you don’t have it already, maybe making some type of system that gives people an idea of what games are “easy”, “intermediate” , and “hard” to play. I think this would be especially helpful...
