We are new to the area and drove 25 minutes with three kids excited for ice cream and burgers to this Dairy Queen in Onalaska. At the drive through I asked a question about their kids menu. Instead of answering my question about the menu, the older male employee told me, "it is very easy to read, read it." I was taken back by his response but thought maybe he was having a bad day so I asked the question differently in case he didn't understand and he got mad. He didn't answer my question. When I said can you please just answer my question he replied, "you don't have to get snarky with me." He then proceeded to tell me I could order or leave if I didn't like it. I asked if there was a manager on duty that I could speak with and he told me yes but I would have to wait in line and talk to her at the window. We really wanted ice cream and burgers so I waited in line hoping the manager could just answer my questions and take care of our order. When I got up to the window it was an older woman that was at the window and she was already mad before I even said anything. She then proceeded to tell me she heard everything that was said in the drive through. I asked if she was ok with how it was handled and she responded yes without hesitating. She said the board is self explanatory. If you can't read it, then leave. She didn't even try to answer my question or take my order. I was stunned. So we did what they both recommended and left. Burger King was more than happy to answer our questions, had exceptional customer service and great burgers that our kids loved. We went to Cold Stone Creamery for ice cream which was fantastic. I now see this Dairy Queen has numerous bad reviews, I wish I had read them before we visited ourselves. Do yourselves a favor and go somewhere else. We recommend Burger King, Cold Stone Creamery or Culvers. Each one of these locations had no problems answering simple questions about their menu even if it was already listed on the menu board and...
Read moreNewer to the area and went to the DQ in Onalaska recently for the first time and utilized the drive thru service. Due to the pandemic I've been trying to be careful with everything. I am a nurse and community safety is important to me. I've supported other businesses that have implemented safe practices for their employees and customers and assumed this business had also implemented such measures. Unfortunately that was not the case at the time of our visit. When we pulled up to the drive thru window, nobody was wearing masks, not even the people that were making our ice cream and we noticed some other questionable things that are not the most hygienic. I asked if the transaction could be voided, and the young man at the window asked one of his coworkers for help. This other young man asked why I wanted the transaction to be voided and when I kindly told him why, he became rude and disrespectful. Little did he know, that if the transaction could not have been voided, I would have been willing to pay for the ice cream but he did not allow me to say much. The last thing he said to me was "well you are not wearing a mask, so why should we?" And then he slammed the drive thru window before I could say anything. (We were in our car, outside in the drive thru...we were not breathing over anyone's ice cream while making it ...If we were making ice cream for the public, we would implement better hygienic practices and have better customer service). Needless to say, we drove off without any ice cream and got it from a safer source. We would not mind giving DQ in Onalaska a second chance but that won't happen until they improve their practices and customer service. Until then, we are sharing our experience with our coworkers to prevent anyone else from having the same experience we had. Best to avoid this...
Read moreMy wife wanted to stop at the DQ in Onalaska for supper. We haven't been there in a long time. Went to the register and the person there walked away and didn't come back. I mentioned this to the grey haired lady at the 2nd register and she just wanted to argue with me about it saying she didn't see anyone there. My wife placed her order and the lady was continuing to be snotty and rude to her. I first said I wanted the # 1 which has bacon and then said no I will take the # 3 without bacon. She repeated the order back the correct way but I got the bacon one and was charged for that. I took the sandwich back and a nice young man said to the lady with grey hair that originally waited on us this was not suppose to have bacon. Her response loud enough so I could hear it, he originally order the # 1 with bacon. I said excuse me I changed it to the #3 and you acknowledged it. She said I know with a half hearted apology to follow like it was my fault. Very poor customer service by this lady and we will not go back. So sad because the food was good.
