El Potro — Restaurant in Opelousas

This place was so disappointing to me. First, I want to be fair.... the food was edible and safe to eat, but that is about it! It DID NOT even come close to what I expect from a Mexican restaurant. The hamburger meat in my cholula and burrito was just plain hamburger without spice or seasoning of any kind. Likewise, the "enchilada sauce" topping was plain, unflavored tomato sauce. The rice and beans had almost no flavor to them either. No sense of freshness in tortilla shells. The tomato was as hard as a slice of wood.... I didn't dare to try and eat it. The single bright spot was the guacamole, which was very good. The appetizer chips weren't fresh and most were broken/small chip fragments and the salso was ok/good (not great).

I suppose if I'd poked around in their dumpster I'd have found the empty cans of their menu foods with Cisco and/or Gordon Food Service. I've eaten better mexican food from a hospital cafeteria than from here. I HAVE NO PLANS to be going back!

Wait service was both slow and not...

We were seated quickly & our drinks arrived quickly. We asked for our waiter after a 15-20 minute wait for him to take our order. We stopped a waitress & were told our waiter was dealing with a 20 person table . We understood he was busy but I do believe another waiter could have taken our order. The restaurant did not seem overly busy. The waitress did take our order & the busy waiter delivered the food. He did not say anything to us & the order was incorrect. We caught him when he finally walked by & he fixed the incorrect order. He never stopped at our table to ask if everything was ok or if we needed anything else. When he gave us the check he did not ask if we wanted anything else. We probably will not go back. The wait staff was not at all congenital. We are good tippers & enjoy a wait staff that does not treat us like we are too...

The waiter was very nice. The food was not good. I am traveling from out of town and stopped according to a couple of previous reviews. Did not know what to order so I asked the waiter for the best quality meat he had. He suggested that I try their ribeye. I did so. Not good! About 40% fat And they serve a very thin steak that was very tough. It started out wrong with bad chips. They were so hard I could not eat them. They do not make those at the restaurant. They must buy them in bulk. Cost me $30 for lunch! I don’t mind paying for good food. This was Not. They also charged me 4% and called it a second tax because I used a credit card. Not acceptable will not eat there again or recommend it. Sorry, but people need to...
