A little gem that imports Mexico straight into opelousas louisiana here at La Hacienda…They’ve consistently served great food in Opelousas for ages now, the staff is the best, have been here for a long time, shout out to you Claudia, Capasa?
Tried a lot of things off the menu and over time have locked in on El Tapatio, which is chicken fajita-ish blend with sausage bits and covered in queso. Steak ranchero is good and hot to, will take more pictures on our next trip. The Queso Blanca aka cheese dip, stellar arctic white cheese sauce. The salsa is great to, my only complaint is the chips could stand to have more seasoning, I’m always adding salt and pepper to give it some more pop.
I don’t drink anymore but from what I’ve heard all the drinks are excellent if your into that kind of thing, apparently everyone else comes here for that, they’re known to pump out great drinks. Can’t remember exactly what it’s called but it was like a fried cheesecake dessert that we tried, get it, it’s worth a try.
Basically, just because your in Opelousas, La doesn’t mean you can’t have a real taste of Mexico, the people on side of them could learn a lot if they just visited La Hacienda. Apparently the chain that I’m speaking about deliberately positioned themselves directly adjacent to them, the parking lot tells it all. La Hacienda will pack out at peak times, the other people???not so much…
In case you couldn’t tell at this point I’m not a fan of the other restaurant next door, after several terrible trial runs with them, sure the building looks cooler, sure the parking lot is much, much bigger, sure it looks more like a good ole fashioned US of A authentic Mexican jumbo restaurant, but your stomach can’t tell what the place looks, your taste buds could care a less what it looks like.
Thank me later when you end up sticking with the Og of Opelousas by choosing the better choice, La Hacienda. Your senses will thank me later for keeping you out of the one next door…when you get there, tell them...
Read moreI found this place using Google Maps and based on the very good reviews, decided to stop in for lunch on a Sunday on a road trip passing through. The service was very efficient despite being pretty busy (there was a family of probably close to ten at a table right across from our booth) and we got in and out and back on the road in about 45 minutes. My wife liked her mushroom quesadilla and said the mexican rice was quite tasty which came along with my meal too, and she was right. I had chicken enchiladas with mole sauce and it was pretty standard, and too onion-y at that: I like onions, but I think these should have been cooked, not raw. Bathroom also was a bit old. All in all though it was much more than OK, and I would definitely consider stopping again going the other direction on our way home, except it's on the wrong side of...
Read moreI wish I could give this zero stars. Only one star because the food was so horrid that they didn't make me pay for it. Started off poor service partially because the waitress we had barely spoke English. So everything we asked for, was not received or not properly at least. The main course came out, and we had gotten Chimichangas. They steak one was only shredded beef, the shrimp one had plenty of shrimp but it was BOILED shrimp, not grilled as it should be. They were all soggy and not a deep fried like normal. But the so called famous cheese sauce was extremely thick and disgusting. It tasted like that cheap fake cheese that comes wrapped in plastic individually. Only thing worth the price was the Daiquiri. I wouldn't eat here again if...
