I’ve visited this location three times over the past six months. My first two visits were exceptional — the service, food, and atmosphere were all top-notch. However, my most recent experience was disappointing due to the attitude and behavior of one of the hostesses.
When my party of three arrived, we were met by a cold and unfriendly hostess (a woman with black hair, possibly of Latino descent, and slightly overweight). She did not greet us, but instead abruptly asked how many were in our party and whether we wanted to sit outside. Since it was chilly, we declined. She then rolled her eyes, sharply asked for my phone number, and without further conversation said, “We’ll text you when we have a seat inside,” before walking away. My group was stunned by her rudeness.
Thankfully, after about 5–7 minutes, a kind manager called my name and seated us. From that point on, we had a wonderful experience with our server — a man with short black hair, who was incredibly attentive and pleasant, though we unfortunately didn’t catch his name.
After our meal, we used the QR code on the receipt to pay. As we were leaving, the same hostess stopped us at the door and rudely asked, “Did you pay your bill?” We confirmed that we had. She then walked to the register to "verify" our payment before letting us exit. We were shocked and deeply offended.
The entire interaction left us questioning whether racial bias played a role — we are three Black women in a predominantly white neighborhood, and the treatment felt targeted and inappropriate. If the restaurant offers the convenience of QR code payment, staff should be properly trained on how it works, and guests should not be treated with suspicion or disrespect.
This experience has made me unsure whether I’ll return. I sincerely hope that the management addresses this behavior and provides the necessary training to ensure no other guests are made to feel profiled...
Read moreFirst Watch in Lewis Center is a newer location. It is clean, open, airy, and a little more upscale than most. The service is quick and friendly. Your food will arrive quickly unless they are very busy. It can be a little noisy also at those times. The only downfall to my experience (after many visits) is an inconsistent product coming out of the kitchen.
One of my favorite items is the Farmhouse Hash. If done right, this is an amazing combination of flavors, however at times the potatoes are seriously under cooked and sometimes under ripe avocados also lower the bar. When you are spending $25 per person with tip I expect a more reliable experience.
Getting there the first time can be a little challenging as you will need to turn at the light just North of the location and go behind the building to enter the parking lot.
Special Note: The three private restrooms are spotless and two are...
Read moreWe ordered take out for the first time. There's a competitor that we have loved to eat at for the last couple of years where we previously lived and we absolutely loved the competitions food. I'm shocked to say that, even though my first experience here was a take out order (Much harder to deliver the same quality in my opinion) First Watch crushed the competition. The prices were just modestly higher but the food is much better. We look forward to frequenting this place and trying more items!!
I'm only commenting on the food here since we didn't dine in. The location however did look beautiful (Again, way better than the competitor) The staff seemed pleasant as well. I'm excited to be part of this neighborhood and to have access to this great...
