We found this place on Yelp! and were very happy we went. Open just 8 months ago by the Gonzalez family (Stephanie, her sister & parents), this restaurant is very welcoming. A little hard to find, but when we called they gave excellent directions. It's in the Donut Star plaza between the Union hall and the Metro PCS plaza. We parked and walked in to a smiling Stephanie. We sat near the windows and were given menus and fresh made tortilla-rounds with 3 different sauces (varying degrees of heat). We ordered Corona Lights (they also had Premier, Extra & Familiar available) and perused the menu. It was Tuesday, so tacos were $0.99 each! I went to the Specialties section and went with the first choice because I'd ever seen it before, The Pambazos. My husband ordered the steak fajitas with refried beans & rice. While we were waiting we were given more chips and got to speak with Stephanie. She told us about the restaurant and different foods they made. The food....it was FANTASTIC! Stephanie explained that the Pambazos was a traditional "sandwich" everyone ate in the streets of Mexico. I akin it to a Po-Boy sandwich in New Orleans - a mixture of everything in there. It is: a Torta (oblong roll-like) lightly covered in red Enchiladas sauce (not dripping) filled with potatoes, chorizo, lettuce, queso fresco, cheese and sour cream. Yes, it was DIVINE! I added a little of each sauce to bring out more flavors, but didn't need to. The fajitas were also very good. The steak was tender and the veggies crisp. The wraps were made fresh along with the refried beans and rice. Everything was fresh and phenomenal. To make things even more so, Stephanie brought out 2 soft-shelled cochinita pibil tacos. WOW! These were also phenomenal. What is it? A traditional slow-roasted pork with shredded cheese, red onions, lettuce, tomato. Nothing here was overdone, crumbled in your hands, or was overstuffed. It was all so perfect. Then she brought out some Moles (pronounced mo-lays) - lightly fried chips covered in there black-chocolate sauce. Another wonderful taste for our tongues. We walked out with leftovers and plan to go again to try their breakfast burritos. Their website is under construction, but gives links to directions, eventual menu, and their other social media sites. A GREAT addition to the Anaheim-Orange area - just a few miles from Disneyland & the resort area. I'll submit photos once...
Read moreIt really is an understatement when i say this is Orange County’s best mexican restaurant there is!!! To begin with, hospitality is top notch, all servers have been super friendly, and they hand you everything you need before you ask for it, utencils, chips, salsa, napkins. I became a regular in just 1 visit!! Lol it is worth the price! Ive lived in Oc for 11 years now and had seen this restaurant here and there, but never really had the will to go inside, until i started working as a doordasher side job and i saw many people ordering from here. So next thing i do? Of course! Get myself a good meal from Gonzalez! I got the enchiladas de mole, and let me tell you, if you really want to try a piece of mexico, you should go here! The mole is even inported from puebla, and you can definetly taste it! How do i know? Well i was born and raised in Veracruz Mexico, just next to puebla and we had mole all the time, the first bite i took out of that enchilada de mole, brought me back to my days in mexico, kind of like Anton Ego from Rattatouille remembering his childhood after he tried the food, well that was me too! The food made me so happy to the point i felt like a new person when i walked out of there!! And i also studied Culinary Arts, so i know for sure when food touches your soul, makes you happy and you feel different. That is how you definetly know you hit a golden ticket!! And this restaurant is nothing but that!!! I havent gone lately as i started eating at home, but i will go back again soon to devour some enchiladas de mole again!! But yes back to the point, this place will hit your soul with happiness as the food is AMAZING!!! I have brought a couple guests here too, thats how good i think this place is, to the point that people need to know about it!!!! Ive tried about 4-5 different plates from their menu, and they all have been wonderful, plus their coffee is too good as well!!!! Even thinking about it made me hungry lol. Oh and also be sure to go hungry because the portions are big too!! Gonzalez is my togo mexican spot from now on, and trust me, its coming from a...
Read moreDO NOT get Chilaquiles, they need to be removed from menu or change the recipe.... (take note owner). Second time I get them and yes on my review I consider the degrade of food during transportation "TO GO"... Both red and green chilaquiles are one of the worst I have ever had, let's focus on the RED sauce chilaquiles. 1- The sauce is out of a can🥫and does not have a good taste, it has a big BLAND taste, no salt, seasoning, it's super red that later you will see the color red again... if you know what I mean. 2- The tortilla chips are the WRONG chips to use for a sauce, they are like the "tostitos restaurant style original" bag from the shelf. 3- I ordered with meat and the meat had no salt or seasoning, at least sprinkle some salt. 4- eggs had no flavor, at least add a bit of salt. 5- Rice and beans were good.
In CONCLUSION, you will eat mostly a paste of red dough under the eggs and meat that could use a bit of garlic, salt, cumin, maybe a bit or oregano and onion powder at MINIMUM! There is nothing like a real sauce even when partial mix with a can sauce. As for the chips they should maybe get supplied from the tortilla chips they sell like at Superior Grocers instead of your cheap masa chips design for chips and salsa only that break when scooping up salsa and the spicy salsa on the side did not help at all. By nature chilaquiles should be spicy, these were 0 zero spicy and I get it not everyone likes spicy but the green chilaquiles were slightly spicy compared to the red ones.
Very generic food, its manufactured in a lazy way to save a few bucks rather than cooking it, there is no effort into it other than preparing it so thank you cooks for the good work into following the instructions 👍
I'm sure other items are good, I also order machaca for my daughter and that one was tasty but chilaquiles need to be...
