This has been one of our favorite places to go and is a regular in our line up of places to go when we eat out. However, after this visit, Holdaak might fall from my favs.
First, prices have increased here. I expect that given inflation and the price of chicken. But this goes a bit further.
They’ve revamped their menu. Previously, you could get either 3pc or 5pc chicken strips for the same price as you can now for the current 2pc chicken strip meal.
Mind you, the strips are bigger, but I’m skeptical that the 2 bigger pieces are equal to what they were before.
Second, one of the reasons we loved this place was because of their fries. It seems these have changed too. Now they’re crinkle cut and just don’t taste like they used to. They’ve cut back on the portion size and the taste just doesn’t hit the same. Big loss there.
Third, the chicken wings. This was the final blow. Before their menu switch a few months back, chicken wings weren’t as breaded. The current wings are bigger, but it seemed like most of that was breading, so I doubt if they’re actually any bigger…just looks like it’s more.
Next, I don’t remember being charged in the past for doing half and half for the seasonings. Now they charge. AND the original flavor just tastes like fried chicken…nothing special to it anymore. We also got the caramel soy, and that was a let down with it over the breading. It just didn’t give me the usual good mouth-gasms I used to get here.
For the sake of helping others, especially families, I recommend just getting the family pack for $38.95, but this doesn’t come with fries.
I used to get x2 5pc chicken tenders (comes with toast and fries) + 10pc wings for about $50-$60 +/- for my family of 3 plus my mom, and we’d always have leftovers. I suppose those days are gone.
I used to think this place was better than Clyde’s but after this visit, I say there equal.
I get times are hard and prices change, but please go back to the vendor you got your old fries from…and even chicken. What you’re offering is more expensive for less quality. Personally, I’d rather pay more for what you...
Read morePlaced my order online at 6:45ish and it said it would be ready at 7:05. I live 15 min away so we left right when I placed it. 4 min after leaving my house I got a text that the order was ready. I tried calling when I saw this to make sure that my food wasn't sitting in the bag getting soggy and cold for another 15-20 minutes till it was supposed to be ready. No one answered so when I got there I asked for fresh fries as they had been sitting in a tied up bag for 15 minutes. The lady at the front was very nice and asked the other girl cooking to remake them. She immediately rolled her eyes and said "ok" while I was still standing there. I then waited for my food and went on my way. Not sure why she would be frustrated with me when the order said it would be ready at 7:05 so I planned to get there then. Meanwhile they finish it early, knowing the initial time was 20 minutes later. I would think this is common sense. If she recognized her wrong and wasn't rude about it I wouldn't be leaving a negative review. But don't roll your eyes at me when YOU made...
Read moreNot very good. I got the regular chicken tender with fries and my friends got the spicy sandwich. None of us liked what we got. The tenders were juicy but very bland. There was a little seasoning on them but you could barely taste it. The fries were also soggy and tasteless. Even the ranch was watery with no flavor. The only thing that had some flavor was the red sauce. It was sweet with a little kick but it wasn't enough to make up for the blandness of everything else. The chicken wasn't undercooked but the breading was very flour-y in some places. In the end, I ended up removing most of the breading and just eating the chicken plain. Both of my friends said the spicy chicken sandwich was also not great. It wasn't very spicy and they didn't like the sauce on it. The wait wasn't too long but almost $30 for two sandwiches and five tenders seems a little high. I came here on a recommendation but I don't think I'll be...
