This review is not about purchasing keto food experiences but rather about the classes hosted at the bakery. The organization of these classes is extremely poor, unprofessional, unethical, and irresponsible. The host, Maryam, stated that the maximum number of students allowed is 8; however, we had 10 students on the first day and 9 students on the second day. The space is very small and disorganized, and it is not in good condition. Even with eight students, the environment would feel overcrowded, yet we had 10 on the first day. Additionally, the instructor, Congmom, did not have a microphone. When I inquired with Maryam, she explained that Congmom did not request one, which is why it was not provided. Maryam also mentioned that she did not have time to purchase a microphone after class. I had to send her a link to a microphone on Amazon so she could place an order.
The instructor, Congmom, was demonstrating how to make a sponge cake, while Mariyam was preoccupied with her own tasks and forgot to preheat the oven.
I have attached a photo to show how crowded we were. There were also bakery customers coming in and out, talking inside the bakery, which was quite disturbing. Additionally, Mariyam sometimes spoke on her phone with the speaker on while walking around inside the bakery during our class sessions.
Lunches were included in the tuition; however, we all had to eat outside the bakery shop because it is simply too small inside. Hey, it’s August, and the temperature is over 90 degrees outside!
I have taken numerous pastry and cake decorating classes, and this one is by far the most unstructured. The instructor speaks understandable English, but it is not professionally fluent. As a result, she occasionally asks the Korean student to translate for her because the host did not provide a translator.
Not only was there no in-class translator, but the host also lacked various forms of support. I believe our class hangout recipe resembles a direct translation from Korean to English using Google Translate.
There was a shortage of staff, equipment, and cleanliness. The establishment has a very disheveled appearance, and the bathroom is especially unclean. Bakery customers frequently come and go, making it challenging to maintain the cold room temperature. As a result, our fresh cream melts easily, and flies are buzzing around.
Keto Bakery is currently offering a variety of classes, with many instructors traveling from Korea to California to participate. I seriously doubt that the Korean instructors were aware of this situation prior to their arrival here.
We do not receive a hard copy of the class certificate upon completing the three-day workshop because the host is unwilling to provide one. Additionally, the microphone she ordered from Amazon was ineffective due to her lack of knowledge on how to connect it to the speaker. Fortunately, a Korean student brought a microphone from home; otherwise, we would have faced an even more challenging situation. I do not believe the host is genuinely concerned about the students' learning experiences. It seems her primary motivation is financial gain, as the bakery does not appear to be thriving. She likely views hosting classes as an easy way to generate income.
I felt sympathy for all the students, including myself, as well as for the baking and cake decorating instructors who came to Keto Bakery. This was not what we had anticipated. Congmom is here all by herself; it’s her first time teaching in the U.S., and I’m sure she feels overwhelmed and disappointed. She is very kind to her students and has promised to email us a digital copy of our certificates.
I hope all the instructors read my review before agreeing to come here. Beware! This is not a studio; it is a disorganized and cramped bakery. You should think twice before teaching here unless you are willing to jeopardize...
Read moreDisappointing. I kept seeing this place advertised on Facebook Marketplace and I thought that it would be a fun place with guilt-free keto food. I was so excited to finally have time to visit and I traveled 30 miles to get there. The female that was working was very rude and she kept rushing me even though we were the only ones there. I told her that it was my first time there and I had a few questions but she didn't seem to care. So, in spite of the place having teapots everywhere trying to create a hospitable atmosphere, it didn't happen.
I ordered $36.00 worth of pastries to take home. The food is very underwhelming. It's like your grandma's cooking. I thought it would be current, like the keto food on Instagram or FB, but it's not. The tiramisu lacked flavor with a horrible sweetener that had a bitter aftertaste. Not to mention it will cause you to run to the bathroom for the majority of the night. The strawberry shortcake was ok, but again chemical flavor aftertaste. The brownies were not like brownies. The icing looked like brownie icing, but the inside was like a cake with something white in it. I'm not sure what that was. It's like one texture fits all. Brownies are supposed to be moist inside with lots of chocolate flavor. This tasted like a no-bake cake. Dry with a weird texture. They were out of bagels. The peanut butter and jelly cookie was probably the better of all of the pasty that I got. Btw, they sell these in packages for shipping, but I'm not sure if there's an expiration date on them or not or preservatives. Things go bad quickly, especially things made with eggs that have no preservatives added so I didn't buy any.
I asked about a mini cake in the refrigerator and she said that those were cakes left over from Mother's Day. Today's Thursday, Mother's Day was Sunday, so it was probably made a day or two before then so if it's been possibly 5 days, which is a serious red flag for me. And it cost $38.00, which is way too much for 5 day old cake. Especially, a mini cake.
I know sometimes keto food can be a challenge to make, but if you're a keto baker, you should know how to make it incredible and delicious. Originally I wasn't going to leave a review but for $36.00 I could have bought some Atkins, Pure Protein, or even Quest bars and had a lot more flavor and satisfaction with less money, driving...
Read moreI’ll start off by saying keto is notorious for being expensive and even then, this doesn’t guarantee flavor. This gem has it all!
There is plenty of parking and it is a safe area. Upon entering you’re welcomed with great customer service and many options. Erica helped us and she was extraordinarily helpful and so kind.
They do allow you the opportunity to sample to ensure you like what you’re buying. ( don’t abuse it) We we’re recommended the jalapeño bagel and with the marinara sauce and toasted it was delicious. The cookies are soft and flavorful as are the little cakes. Did I mention everything is keto and sugar free, yes EVERYTHING. my only gripe is there are NO nutritional facts to reference for those of us that track not just carbs but macros. :(
There is a sign that that does reassure you that everything is sugar free, keto and everything has 6 or under net carbs. Now when we were about to pay, I was nervous about what the 4 cookies, a cake and the bagel would cost me and it was relatively cheap in comparison to neighbor Keto Candy Girl. Erica was nice enough to reassure us that everything here is baked fresh in house and keeps the prices lower than the competition.
Stop by and curb those cravings you’ve been having all while staying in ketosis. I’m so ready to make another stop (I reside in the SFV) and try...
