Absolutely the best Japanese quisine in Orange County, possibly even California!
We walked in Friday evening, and we were seated immediately. We got drinks right away, and before we knew it we were placing our order. California rolls and edamame came out within minutes, and were the absolute best I've had. Tonkotsu Ramen came out not too long after, and we were blown away by the delicious pork, delicious and cooked to perfection ramen noodles, and the broth which was packed with rich flavor. The staff were so friendly, we felt like regular customers on our first time. And, our whole order was less than $30! Perfect evening for two, absolutely coming back!
A few notes: Dining area was very small, only about 10 tables or less. On busy nights the wait may be long, but for a Friday evening there were only 4-5 tables seated. The music being played in the restaurant was American pop, like what would be on the radio. This was a little jarring, being used to Japanese restaurants playing traditional Japanese music; i.e. classical, jazz, or jpop. Out of my whole experience there, the music is the only thing that wasn't absolutely 100% perfect.
Otherwise, this was the best Japanese meal I've ever had! My biggest thanks to the chef and...
Read moreMy first visit to Ramen Mura offered a mixed, but mostly positive, experience. I started my meal with the Eel and Avocado Roll, which came out first. The sushi was decent—nothing spectacular, but satisfying enough to start the meal. Next up was the highly-anticipated Habanero Miso Ramen bowl. This is where Ramen Mura truly shines! Be warned: this ramen is very spicy! It’s intensely hot, but the flavor is exceptionally good. The depth of the broth is impressive, and you can distinctly taste the savory richness of peanut sauce blending with the miso and habanero. The ramen itself was decent, but that unique, spicy-nutty flavor combination is what makes the bowl memorable and worth ordering. You definitely taste the peanut sauce, and the heat level delivers. While the food had its highs (the ramen!) and its consistency (the sushi), the overall atmosphere was impacted by the service, which felt a little mid-tier. It wasn't poor, but it lacked the attentiveness that turns a good meal into a great experience. Overall, I recommend Ramen Mura for those seeking an aggressively spicy ramen with a unique, delicious twist. Just set your expectations for the...
Read moreNot my first time here. I dined here with my mom last weekend. I had the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen and she had the Black Ramen.
The chashu tasted underdone in both of our ramens. And my mom's Black Ramen, barely tasted the garlic compared to last visits that. It tasted no different than the broth from the regular tonkotsu. We were both disappointed. I tasted the broth myself and found the flavor of garlic very low to non-existent. So we had her Ramen taken off the bill and my mom just ate the sushi.
As you can see from the photos. The most recent picture of the black Ramen you can clearly see the broth looks lighter compared to the older photo of the black Ramen, which the broth looks darker. Same with the chashu. The older picture was the black Ramen that had more garlic flavor than the most recent black Ramen.
Despite the underdone and too small chashu, my spicy tonkotsu Ramen was excellent. Broth was spicy and flavorful and I enjoyed the noodles. They were a little too chewy and plain flavor wise but I enjoy them nonetheless.
Service was fine....
