I really want to like this place, I like the decor and I used to come here years ago and remember it being decent and nice. We recently moved nearby and this is now our closest breakfast spot to our house and I really like the idea of having a close local breakfast joint for weekend breakfasts. Alas, we've come twice recently and it's not the most family friendly spot.
No kids menu with activities to do. I even appreciate a dixie cup of broken crayons. My bar is not that high. Also when I asked if I could have 2 pieces of bacon instead of bacon and egg for my son who will not allow eggs to be on his plate I was told no substitutions are possible. Which I do understand, but I guess I expect more leniency for kids. Also this is why there are usually more than one breakfast option on a kids menu, so you can choose the breakfast without eggs. (I did appreciate that the pancake was mickey mouse shaped and had a fruit face, that was a nice touch).
I ordered a side of bacon for the kids and it was burnt, not even just really crispy but actually burnt and tasted bitter like charcoal burnt. My hash browns in my meal were also burnt and bitter. My biscuit was a little under baked, and the gravy was underseasoned and tasted a bit like wet gummy flour.
I also ordered a cup of coffee which was filled only halfway and then never refilled. I saw from across the restaurant that someone had French vanilla creamer (I was not asked what creamer I wanted, nor given a selection). I tried to flag down a waitress to ask for some French vanilla creamer and no one responded to me so I had to walk over and get some for myself from the dish that the other customer had left on the table when they left.
I can tell the staff is hustling, I know it's hard to keep people staffed these days, and I know it's hard when things get busy, but it did feel like even when they were there with us they were just trying to hustle along to the next person. My takeaway is that this is a churn and burn spot (churn the customers through and...
Read moreI have eaten at this diner several times since they moved into their new digs and have enjoyed my meals all except tonight. I went with my three aunts and this is how it went. We smelled burnt toast coming from the kitchen. A few minutes later aunt #1 got her omelet with burnt toast on a plate that kept moving until she stuffed napkins under it and later said her omelet was over cooked and rubbery. Aunt #2 ordered biscuits and gravy. More like hockey pucks with a dab of gravy on them. The bottom of the biscuits were very hard and she flipped her knife onto the floor when she finally cut through one chunk. Aunt #3 ordered a simple hamburger with steak fries. The fries were good but the burger patty was black on both sides and so was the bun. They made her a new one and the bun was much better but the patty was still over done just not quite to the burnt point. And me? I ordered a double western burger with potato salad. Excellent potato salad. The burger patties were over done and the whole thing was lacking in bbq sauce and a bun that would not fall apart by my third bite. The bacon? It was so hard in places I thought I broke a tooth at one point and I have teeth like concrete. So, My overall experience tonight has led me to believe that now that they have settled into the new place that their food quality has started to lack. I sure hope things get better for them but I wont be back any time soon and none of my aunts...
Read moreThis was an unfortunate and pretty awful experience. First, we ordered and 20 minutes go by before we were told that they were out of steak so my husband had to pick another food item. A few minutes later my burger comes out and I'm not sure why they didn't wait to ensure our food came out together out why it took them so long to notice they were out of steak. My burger was on rye bread which I did not ask for but the waitress wrote down that I did and apologized. I didn't want to be difficult so I ate it regardless. Then about 10 minutes later my husband's burger finally came out and the patty is fried, apparently it's a garden burger...,again, not what we asked for and we could hear the cook in the back saying that this is the way the Grace Kelly burger comes. Funny, that's what I also ordered and it came out normal but on the rye bread. So then we had to wait ANOTHER 10 minutes for them to fix his order. Our waitress seemed new so not to knock on her but this was such a...
