El Comal Taqueria and Grill (Phoenix Or) — Restaurant in Phoenix

This place smelled so good when we entered. It was obviously going to be an upper class restaurant from looking at the menu. They described their mouth watering menu of a unique blend of food in such a way that made you want to order one of everything. I loved how they brought beans and salsa with the chips. Never seen that before. I was the last one to order and decided on the fish tacos. Since there was 4 of us trying to scoop salsa and beans out of their small sauce bowls it was difficult to manage without spilling and they were small so, I asked our waitress for another set but, it seemed as if we were putting her out or maybe they just didn't want to cut loose with any more. We hadn't eaten all day and was famished. The food took a long time to cook. It arrived while I was in the rest room. Upon returning I see everyone had their food except for mine. So, assuming that it was on it's way I sat and waited for my food while my family ate . We finally got the waitresses attention to ask if my food was still cooking thinking it strange that the meals were not brought together and at this point another 20 minutes had gone by when the waitress finally admits that she failed to write down my order. She didn't even apologize but, she offered to order mine again. Because it took so long to get the dishes my family ordered and we were running late I declined the offer to reorder my 1s meal. I told the waitress no thanks but, ,I would appreciate more salsa, chips and bean dip. By the time the salsa, chips & bean dip arrived my family was finished eating and ready to leave. While waiting I noticed my two teenage girls who were starving to eat their lunch had only taken a couple bites of their huge burritos. I was about to get on them about it when my daughter offered me a bite of hers. One bite and I understood why they were not eating. Then I tried my husband's enchilada, chili releno, beans & rice plate. It looked delicious. I passed him back his plate after taking a bite. We had splurged and bought a bowl of tortilla soup which turned out to be with no meat balls. It was mostly tortilla and some chicken with a strange taste Everything had a strange taste to it. Bottom line was all 5 of of us felt this business had a great looking menu but one bite of the dish was plenty. waitress was either in wrong business or just having a bad day. Would not recommend this place for anything but...

Absolutely horrible service. Ordered food from the menu and had to change my order multiple times because of some made up reasons they can’t serve tacos at a certain time, or can’t replace anything (like cheese or sour cream). Waited half an hour and never received drinks. Nobody else was eating in, so it wasn’t busy. Very disappointed because this place used to be good. Ended up just leaving without ordering anything for myself.

So this second part is in response to the restaurant’s lies below this review 👇🏽Absolutely not true, the order I placed was under lunch and brunch specials, there was no differentiation on your menu, but you tried to change it for some reason with me and I even pointed out to the server that I wanted the premium meat on my taco and just asked how much more. He proceeded to ask his supervisor and came back and told me. I agreed to the price and ordered the taco combo brunch special. Then the supervisor told me I can’t do that on a Sunday? Even tho it was on your Saturday and Sunday brunch special. I did not ask for anything for free, but you did try to charge us extra for a drink when we were leaving. We never received our drinks, not even water. Go ahead and keep responding tho, I can keep going on about the horrible service, how rude the supervisor was, how lost our server was, and how terrible the burrito my partner ordered was. He got a California burrito with almost all potatoes and just a couple of pieces of meat. I used to like this restaurant a lot, but now I will not go back. My friend took me out for lunch here and I will never come back here again and neither will he. I ordered vegetarian fajitas. I said my order 3 times and she still brought me back a burrito. I told her it was supposed to be fajitas. Then I say if they are going to throw away the burrito I could take it. That burrito sat there the entire time. My friend got his food and was enjoying meal while my stomach turns in hunger. I just thought it was rude that no one said sorry, no one smiled, the whole vibe here was depressing. The vegetables were not fresh. Super chewy because they come frozen. Ewewwyy!! Also the grittle had a weird old taste. You know that taste when the cast iron wasn't cleaned properly.
