Mile 514 Coffee & an Scone plus tip: $6
Firefly Coffee House calls itself Oregon's living room. Oregon's living room comes decorated with local art, including some marvelous gouaches that almost all have sold. Seeing all the locals visiting or studying prove that Oregon does live at the Firefly. One denizen sat at a table reading a book with such concentration. I commented, "You read a book as if you were a book reviewer." That raised a laugh. "It's a really good book," explained the reader.
Visitors to Wisconsin will do well to buy their souvenir cheese at the Firefly. I know the Firefly prices their cheese well below tourist prices. You'll find the cooler next to the coffee counter. I was reminded of the Cheese Lady of Muskegon Michigan, who also sold cheese at affordable prices.
I joked with myself. Why should I stop in a Wisconsin town if I rarely eat dairy and prefer wine over beer? Every Wisconsin town I've witnessed so far shows the signs of the progressive era. I am looking at a store called Peaceful Heart, right by the Main Tap. I see the presence of a progressive Bank, One Community Bank, offering feel good lending. Near the obelisk honoring the veterans of this town, I see the bandshell awaiting warmer weather. Oregon has taken care of to preserve its downtown inheritance from the past. I have yet to see a Wisconsin town down...
Read moreVery disappointed in the owners of this cafe. I was a loyal customer for years. They are no longer open on weekends. When I asked them if the change was just for the summer or permanent, they gave me a smartass answer and blocked me. What kind of business treats their customers this way? Hours after my original review... now it appears they took their reply to my question down from their FB page after I called them on their bad behavior (yes, I'm the bad guy for calling them out on THEIR bad behavior) and are making up lies about me coming in, harassing and bullying staff, etc. and bullying ME online HERE (see their lies below) to try to cover up their rudeness. They wouldn't even recognize me if they saw me on the street because I work during their business hours, which was the whole reason for my honest question about whether their closing on weekends was permanent. Anyone that doubts this, ask them to show their rude reply to the simple question asked if them. The arrogance and cruelness of these people is astounding. This is disgusting behavior and I deserve an apology. Never in my life did I expect to be treated by a business of any kind in this manner. I'm just dying to hear what proof they have of me coming into their business and harassing them while I am at work 12 miles away....

I wish they were open later, but this is a smaller town, and I'm sure they know their business far better than I do.
No real vegan food options here. I did find a homemade granola bar that had the ingredients listed and was labeled 'vegan' (among other things). It's not on the regular menu, though. The clerk helped me look up a couple items before I ordered. A couple of the items on the menu look like they could be made vegan, but I didn't ask. Of course the majority of the drinks are fine, and they have the option to add soy or almond milk at a cost ($1 when I visited).
I'd definitely come back. The space has been nice for reading and working on my laptop. The clerk was helpful. Seems like it'd be nice for meeting with friends (as I see other...
