LONG LIVE MARIA'S Wanted to update this old review as i just got 2 pizzas from the newly reopened Maria's and although its only takeout as far as my tastebuds and nose are concerned they have not lost a step and for as long as they decide to stay open again i will drive from the north side of Madison to get pizza to take home anytime. Maria's is an old style pizza restaurant and has the best thin crust pizza in the area made by hand by the owners every day.

There are only so many things in life worth waiting for: 1). True love (I gots mine... Love you, Lisa)...2). Knowing your kids grew up happy, healthy, and safe...3). A Badgers National football championship...and a close #4 is Maria's Pizza. *** IT'S OPEN AGAIN, BABY!!!**** Please Please Please never close again, yo. Oregon was lost without you.

I had Maria’s pizza the for the first day I moved to Oregon in 2009 and a couple times since then…today’s fresh mushroom, sausage and onion was an all time great pie. Also the dining room might be coming online!

No menu online to order before you call. Called to order a pizza and was told that they only have large sizes. They don’t have smalls or mediums. After I gave them my order they said that they would call me when my pizza is ready and hung up the phone immediately. I was not able to ask what the price would be or was given any type of time limit. The wait is about a three hour wait for one sized pizza. I called back asking for an update because I live about 20 minutes away and wanted to make sure that I could get there while my pizza was still hot. They told me that it was still away and that they would call me when it was ready. I ordered around 5 o’clock and didn’t get a call until around 8:30 PM. When I got the call that my pizza was ready I drove to the pizza place and was told that they didn’t take debit cards, they only take local check or cash. So I had to leave and drive to the Quiktrip to get cash. Came back and the pizza was pretty much cold. This is too much work for just one pizza. To make this experience better they literally could just post a online menu or give you a time limit or tell you that they don’t take cards ahead of time. That would’ve saved a lot of mental agony. Won’t come back again Because the communication...

I just moved to Oregon and was stoked to try Maris’s., I ordered a Special pizza and garlic knots, but it failed to impress. I’ll keep it simple:

The veggies on the pizza are cut too.thick. “Clumpy” is the best way to describe it. 1/4” x 1” bell pepper chunks paired with 1/4x1/8” diced onion doesn’t cook evenly on their pizzas, and thick chunks of canned mushrooms were kinda icky. I would’ve subbed fresh mushrooms, but the price increase while ordering online was enough to deter me. The sausage was fine, but there wasn’t enough pepperoni on the pizza to remind me, I paid extra for it (diminished by the clumpy veggies).

I ordered garlic knots, I recognized the dough was well folded and laminated, but a) they came in Styrofoam, which made them EXTREMELY chewy, and b) sauce wasn’t automatically included? That sauce could’ve rescued these chewy MFers, but it was described as “extra” and as a $2 upsell in the online portal. I passed assuming an initial side of sauce would be included . That felt misleading Another big mistake.

For all intents and purposes, they are my neighbors. It’s walking distance, but I do not know if they’ll get...

Their pizzas are hand-tossed (literally) by the same Italian family that moved here from Sicily in the 80s. The pizza is delicious thin-crust pizza with generous topping portions. The large pizzas are really big! They have more than just pizza -- including lasagne and pastas. I have only ever gone for pizza though.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is very casual and nothing too special - it's also pretty cozy inside with not many tables. However, the pizza is so good that a visit is always worthwhile - even when driving out from Madison. You might have to wait on a busy night, but no more than any other busy restaurant night. Finally, a visit to Maria's is always easy on the wallet. Their prices are more than reasonable considering how good...
