The Chocolate Caper — Restaurant in Oregon

I was very disappointed. Store bought candy bars are better than these and cheaper. Just recently bought 40 pieces of white chocolate hazelnut pralines as a treat for myself. Not impress with the quality considering the price. No distinctive hazelnut smell, flavor, or taste. I couldn't taste the hazelnuts and they weren't creamy like the old Swiss people who used to own the store. These do not melt easily in your mouth. I had these favorites since the 1990s up till the Swiss owners left as I love hazelnuts. So I am very familiar with the taste. I used to see a lot of ground up hazelnuts in the chocolates. I did not see much in these. I do understand you, as an owner, are sad by my review but this is how I honestly feel about this particular flavor. These hazelnut pralines are like eating baking white chocolate bars not pralines. These are super sweet like eating sugar cubes and are very dry. Didn't taste fresh. My mouth and throat hurt from how sugary they are. Very expensive, cheap ingredients used and will not buy these for myself or anyone as gifts ever again. Quality of chocolate...

I've been purchasing chocolate from The Chocolate Caper for about 20 years or so. The ex-owners made the best chocolate I've ever had. The new owners seem to make a lot of effort but the product just isn't quite the same as before. The old chocolate was a sensation in your mouth, smooth and creamy, low melting point, great flavor. The new chocolate (truffles) sits in your mouth longer, doesn't melt as quickly, is not as creamy and delicious. The old ones used to melt in my hand quickly, these took significantly longer to start melting. I purchased 5 of them, in different chocolates and nuts, and this was true for all of them. It's still quite good, but definitely a couple of steps short of what it used to be. However the dark chocolate dipped apricot seemed to be the same as before. Yum yum yum!!! My favorite chocolates. I grew up in Oregon, WI, and these were always my favorite chocolates. Living in Chicago now for about twenty years, I have yet to find chocolates as good.
