My parents have raved about this place for ages, so now that I’ve moved back to the area, I finally had to give it a try for lunch!
I ordered the lunch bento box ($22) to-go through their website. While online payment isn’t available yet, you can pay at pickup. The estimated wait time was 35 minutes, but my dad assured me they’d be quicker—closer to 15 minutes—and to my surprise, he was right! I waited in my car and got a text when my order was ready.
The lunch bento offers a great selection—you pick two items, and it comes with a salad, miso soup, and two pieces of gyoza. I went with the five-piece sashimi and beef teriyaki. The sashimi was the highlight—fresh and flavorful. The beef was tender, though the teriyaki sauce was a bit on the watery side (not overly sweet, which I appreciated). The miso soup, however, could use a little more miso paste for a richer taste.
Overall, a solid meal at a good price! Glad to have a quality sushi...
Read moreWe have been looking for a good sushi spot near El Sobrante since our regular place went out of business. Sake Blue was wonderful! We had the sushi lunch, a side salad (with the most amazing carrot ginger dressing), and a bento box with tempura and sashimi. The sushi rice was perfect, the proportion of rice to fish was spot on, and the fish was extremely fresh. The service was good, and the overall vibe was comfortable and clean. Will be going back regularly when we are hungry for sushi and hope Sake Blue will be around for...
Read moreWhat the hell is happening to Orinda? Suddenly a good pizza place shows up and now a sushi spot? Seriously I’m like blown away by how good the sushi we just had was. It’s like the fish walked up from the ocean, took bart over to Orinda and flopped on down the street to Sake blue, because man of man is this fish fresh. The sake nigiri melts in your mouth, and my other roll you could taste every single flavor. Just keep swimming folks, straight over to Sake blue. Try...
